Revenge for San Diego State Has Aztecs Winning By Double Digits Over California

San Diego State Aztecs Player Holding Football

Coming from the bigger conference you would think that odds makers would not make California a full touchdown underdog as they travel to take on Mountain West favorite San Diego State. Losing quarterback Jared Goff will probably affect the Bears a bit more than people realize though and the Aztecs are no joke. Have odds makers made San Diego State a little bit too big of a favorite?

NCAA Football Record: 4-0

California Bears
California gained a whopping 630 yards and scored 51 points in their opener against Hawaii. Last season they handled business at home versus pretty much the same San Diego State team 35-7 so for them to be this big of an underdog is pretty interesting. Davis Webb lit up Hawaii passing 441 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions and the offensive line did a good job keeping him upright. California has good returners upfront which should help the transition of the new starting quarterback this season. Although they carved up Hawaii pretty easily I believe they will have a much more difficult time today versus a San Diego state defense that ranked 10th nationally last season in passing yards per game. Defensively there might be some concerns for the Bears coming into this contest as they allowed a pretty bad Hawaii offense to go for 31 points even though the Rainbows turned the ball over four times. As well, they allowed Hawaii to rush for 248 yards which is another red flag considering the running attack they will face today. Along with facing a much better team today California finds themselves in a pretty difficult spot having to go on the road to face a team looking for some revenge on top of the fact that they might be looking a little bit ahead to Texas next week.

San Diego State Aztecs
The Aztecs garnered 461 yards and completely dominated an overmatched New Hampshire team in their home opener. This is a very good San Diego state team that could really make some noise this year and are extremely looking forward to taking on a California team not only from a bigger conference but a team that beat them handedly last season. This year San Diego State returns pretty much every important player on both sides of the ball for a team that hasn't lost since the end of September last season. Running back Donnel Pumphrey is one of the most unheralded players in the country although he won the Mountain West offensive player of the year last season. I look for him to have a huge night tonight against a California team that has already demonstrated they're going to struggle against a good running attack. Along with their offensive core back from the line to the skill positions defensively the Aztecs return a very strong unit that was the best in the Mountain West last season. Across the board this is a team with a lot of veteran juniors and seniors starting and head coach Rocky Long has arguably the best team he has had in his five year tenure.

NCAA Football Odds
Odds makers  have made San Diego State a -7 favorite across the board. For my NCAA Football Pick I'm going to back the home Aztecs to get their revenge against California in a big way and take them laying the touchdown like at 5 Dimes -110. Look for San Diego state to win this game by double digits.
