Hawaii head coach, Norm Chow, says that Wittek reminds him of Carson Palmer. This is his chance to prove it. See who we like in this matchup as our betting pick.
Kickoff is set for Saturday, September 12th at 3:30 p.m. ET at Ohio Stadium. According to 5 Dimes Sportsbook, the Buckeyes are a massive 41 point betting favorite and the total for the game is listed at 65. The question isn't whether Ohio State will win the game, the question is whether Wittek can show that he was overlooked at USC and prove that he can compete with the big boys and make this game competitive against the top team in the nation?
Coaches Don't Play the Game
I definitely agree about this point, but Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer is making a case that the head coach is just a "player on the sidelines".
This is man that won 2 national titles with Florida in 2006 and 2008 and now has a championship with OSU in 2014. Not only that he coached Ohio State to an undefeated season when they weren't post season eligible. At 51 years old, he has a lot of football in him and health would be the only thing stopping him from being the greatest head coach of all time in the modern era.
There have been documentaries on how Meyer conducts business off of the field with his players and there's no surprise why he's been so successful and why the Buckeyes are 41 point favorite in this game. This will be an uphill climb for the Rainbow Warriors.
He Can Do It All
I give Braxton Miller a tremendous amount of credit as he came to OSU a quarterback and a very good one in 2011 and has went from a 1000 yard rusher as the Big Ten Player of the Year at QB in 2012 and 2013 and switched to wide receiver.
At this point, let's just call him an all purpose athlete because clearly he's hand above the rest and can do it all. This is a luxury for Urban Meyer and a huge reason why the Buckeyes win.
In the first game of the season, the Buckeyes handled the Virginia Tech Hokies on the road, 42-24. In that win, Miller had 3 receptions for 79 yards and 1 TD and rushed the football for 61 yards on 5 carries and 1 TD. I expect these numbers to go up in this game if he gets the playing time as blowouts send the starters to the bench early, but a player such as this is very rare and the Buckeyes are lucky to have him.
Let's not forget about Elliot as this is a player that ran for almost 2000 yards last season at 6.8 yards per carry and 18 TD. At 6 foot 1, 225 pounds, Elliot has the perfect size and speed to bust through holes and expect a big game out of him against Hawaii as there will be plenty of running room provided.
With defensive end, Joey Bosa, back in the lineup after serving a suspension, Wittek will have very little time to throw the football. Bosa had 13.5 sacks last season and will be hungry in this game. This game will be totally one-sided in the Buckeyes favor. Lay the points for this College Football Pick.
