Two 3-2 teams meet up on Saturday as the East Carolina Pirates travel out West in a very pivotal game that can make or break their season as they are betting odds underdog to the BYU Cougars.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 pm. on Saturday, October 10th at Lavell Edwards Stadium in Provo, this game can be seen on ESPN U. While no totals are currently available, 5DImes lists the Cougars as a 7.5 point betting favorite on the College Football Betting Board.

The Tougher Road
The tougher schedule is certainly in favor of BYU as the defeated Nebraska and Boise State quite handily, then hit a rough patch with UCLA in a 24-23 loss and a 31-0 pounding at the hands of the Michigan Wolverines and finally, the Cougars are coming off of a not so easy 30-13 victory over the Connecticut Huskies.

Offensive Production
Against Connecticut, BYU more than dominated the yardage game as they out gained Connecticut by over 300 yards, but  had to score 20 4th quarter points to pull out the victory. A couple of poor interceptions didn't help BYU quarterback, Taylor Mangum, but in the end, the victory is all that matters in the standings.

What can be said in BYU's favor is that Mangum threw for 365 yards and 2 TD's as the trio of Mitch Matthews (8 receptions, 78 yards, 2 TD), Terenn Houk (6 receptions, 129 yards), and Mitchell Juergens (10 receptions, 74 yards) offers Mangum a nice set of targets to throw the football to and I don't expect him to drop off as BYU is the team with the better defense.

Against UConn, Algernon Brown nearly rushed for 100 yards while Francis Bernard was a major contributor. This team is stacked and East Carolina will really deserve to move up in the rankings if they can pull off a win here.

Pirates Can Air It Out
Granted, the level of opposition wasn't top 25 material, but the Pirates are coming off of 2 consecutive victories, averaging 42 points per game.
This is a big-time passing team as quarterback, Blake Kemp is throwing at a completion rate of 70% and his favorite target, Isaiah Jones has caught almost 100 yards per game to go along with 2 TD's. Kemp has been able to spread the football around as 5 different receivers have touchdowns or more and that's quite impressive no matter who the Pirates play.

The ECU running game is also solid as they have a grinder in Chris Hairston, who leads the team in rushing and right behind is running back, James Summers, who has averaged an amazing 8.2 yards per carry in a considerate amount of playing time.

I know BYU has the intangibles in their favor; especially home field and difficulty of opposition, but the East Carolina Pirates have momentum and should be more than able to hold their own in this matchup, which should be a very close one.

I'm going to side with the Pirates as College Football Pick, to get the 7.5 points in this very important matchup for both clubs.
