UTSA has been one of the major disappointments of the 2014 NCAA football season, which provides betting value to Southern Miss Thursday night.

Improvement
Southern Miss has already won two more games than a season ago, which you should consider when making your College Football Picks, as it looks to snap a 0-3 SUATS run with the expected return of starting quarterback Nick Mullens.

The sophomore suffered an injury on the first drive against Louisiana Tech on Oct. 25, but he’s listed as probable on the latest injury reports in hopes of improving upon his 243.8 passing yards per game in 2014.

Over the last two-plus seasons, the team is 1-10 SU and 3-8 ATS in November, with the OVER going 6-5 in that situation.

Dreadful Season
UTSA was hoping to build on its seven-win campaign of a year ago, as it featured a nation-leading 36 seniors on its roster, but it enters this Conference USA matchup with a 2-7 SU and 3-6 ATS record.

The Roadrunners have been outscored by a 229-152 margin this season, which can’t be ignored when looking over the College Football Odds, as they possess a negative point differential in all four quarters.

It’s important to point out that the program is 2-6 SU and 3-5 ATS off a loss against a conference rival in its last eight opportunities.

Key Statistic
The Golden Eagles rank in the top 25 nationally in just one statistical category, as opponents have scored on just 75.6 percent of their trips inside the red zone against them.

Southern Miss should be proud of that number given the level of competition it has faced through 10 games, with its opponents putting together a combined 71-40 SU record.

Under Center
The Roadrunners are 122nd in the country in averaging just 282.2 yards per game, with many college football experts directing the blame at the quarterback position, as a trio of players have completed just 56.5 percent of their passes for four touchdowns with 10 interceptions.

Redshirt freshman Austin Robinson is expected to start at the Alamodome in this midweek affair, but he’s put together a disappointing 94.8 pass efficiency rating in six games played (two starts).

Prediction
I’m going to recommend that readers back the Golden Eagles as one of their midweek football picks, as they’ve gone 4-1 ATS as underdogs with Mullens playing a full game this year.
