The Ole Miss Rebels are playing their second consecutive game away from home to start the 2014 season, but they’ll have no trouble taking care of business against the Vanderbilt Commodores Saturday.

Strong Opening Statement
Ole Miss picked up a 35-13 season-opening victory against the Boise State Broncos as 9.5-point neutral-site favorites last Thursday, as it was able to over come three first-half interceptions by senior quarterback Bo Wallace.

The Rebels are looking to start 2-0 for the third straight year under head coach Hugh Freeze, which is important to consider when making your Week 2 college football predictions, as they returned 57 lettermen from last year’s 8-5 squad that won the Music City Bowl.

Over the last two-plus seasons, the program is 3-0 SU and 2-1 ATS as favorites of 10.5 to 21 points, with no edge in terms of the betting total (1-1-1 Over/Under).

A Natural Disaster
Vanderbilt was unable to overcome a minus-five turnover differential in Derek Mason’s debut as a head coach—suffering a 37-7 defeat to the Temple Owls as 8.5-point home favorites last Thursday.

Three quarterbacks took the field for the Commodores in the opener, with Patton Robinette being unable to secure the starting spot, while LSU Tigers transfer Stephen Rivers completed 12 of 25 passes for 186 yards to lead the squad.

College football handicappers will find that the team is 5-7 SU and 7-5 ATS as underdogs since the start of the 2012 campaign.

Moving the Football
The Rebels are worthy neutral-site favorites in this matchup that’ll take place at LP Field, as they’ve gained 947 combined yards in splitting the last two meetings in this Southeastern Conference series.

Wallace needs to take better care of the football, but it’s also important to point out that he’s the SEC’s top returning passer from last year—throwing for 3,346 yards.

Ole Miss has won 14 of its last 21 games against Vanderbilt, with the visitor covering five of the last six contests in the series.

Question Marks Offensively
Commodores running back Jerron Seymour didn’t participate in the season opener due to an undisclosed injury and he’s listed as questionable on this week’s injury report.

Vanderbilt has thrown for 567 combined yards in the last two meetings against Ole Miss Rebels, but that was with former head coach James Franklin being an offensive mind, but he’s now at Penn State.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Rebels as one of their Week 1 College Football picks, as they’ve gone 10-5 ATS as favorites under Freeze since his arrival in Oxford.
