State Bragging Rights on the Line
The Iowa Hawkeyes will host in state rival Iowa St. on Saturday at Kinnick Stadium with the opening kickoff slated for 3:30 PM ET. According to college football odds the Hawkeyes are a 13.5 point home favorite. The Cyclones have gone 17-9 ATS in their last 26 versus the Hawkeyes, including 7-1 ATS in the last 8 played on the road.

Disappointing Start for the Cyclones
Iowa St. began the 2014 season with 2 home games, and was hoping at the very worst to come out 1-1. However, they lost both games at the hands of North Dakota State (FCS) and Kansas St. Even more gut wrenching is the fact that they squandered a 14-point lead in their home opener, and a 15-point lead in last week’s 32-28 loss to Kansas St. The Cyclones defense left a lot to be desired in those first two contests by allowing their opponents to rack up 974-yards of combined offense including a whopping 531 on the ground.

Winning Unimpressively
Iowa has been able to get off to a 2-0 start to the season, but by no means have been impressive in doing so. They needed a late 4th quarter rally last week to overcome a 13-3 deficit at home, and pulled out a 17-13 win over Ball St. Their home opening 31-23 win over FCS Northern Iowa was certainly not one that left the Hawkeyes fans feeling very confident about the future of the 2014 season. Despite winning both contests, the Hawkeyes didn’t come close to covering on each occasion as double-digit favorites. Iowa has now gone 3-12 ATS in their last 15 as a home favorite. On a positive note, their rush defense was terrific allowing a paltry 115-yards combined, and an average of 1.9 yards per carry through the first 2-games.

Final Analysis
I know this is a rivalry game, and I’m sure the “you can throw the records out the window” rhetoric will be repeated more than on a couple occasions this week. However, this is a mentally fragile Iowa St. team right now that lacks confidence. This looks to be a great spot for the Hawkeyes offense to dominate against a very weak Cyclone defense, all while leaving open up the door for our college football picks.

College Football Betting System
Any undefeated home favorite of 10.0 or more that’s playing in game 3 of the season, versus an opponent that’s coming off 2 consecutive losses, and they scored 11-points or more in their previous game, has gone 33-14 ATS 70.2% since 1980, and for that reason we are placing our sports picks on a Hawkeyes' cover.
