The Army Black Knights host the Buffalo Bulls this Saturday at Blaik Field at Michie Stadium. Check out our breakdown of the College Football Odds for this season opener.

Buffalo vs. Army (-3-) Noon ET CBSC
Buffalo was anything but impressive in their 38-28 victory over the glorified high school football team, known as Duquesne University. They allowed the Dukes 373 yards and those 28 points. After leading 21-0, the Bulls actually trailed the Dukes 28-24 in the 4th quarter. That effort is hardly an endorsement when forced to face the Army option attack against which they will have little clue!  There are only 4 RS that made just 44% of the tackles last season for the Bulls. True enough that this is the first game of the season for Army. But with no film of the Cadets’ opener, it will be a tough read for the Buffalo defense.

This is the most experienced Army team in many seasons with no fewer than 16 RS. That includes 9 on the offensive side of the ball where they return 93% of their yards gained. As such, this is a rare year in which Army is one of the more experienced teams on the CFB landscape.  I expect notable improvement from the 3-9 SU, 4-8 ATS mark of last season. No fewer than 3 Army RBs are capable of inflicting pain on the outmanned and confused Buffalo defensive front. Army has made, in my opinion, a great hire in HC Monken. Monken has cut his teeth under GT HC Johnson, one of the most creative option offense minds in the industry. Look for the experienced Army attack which in the 3 previous years has averaged a combined 345 RPG on 5.5 YPR. To STEAMROLL the bewildered Bulls’ defense, while rolling to an easier than expected double digit victory for our College Football picks. Note that Monken was a lofty 38-16 at Georgia St. in guiding that program to 3 consecutive FCS semi-final appearances. Along with his OC Davis, look for the transition to be smooth with a veteran Army offense that will be eager for a winning season after being shackled by former HC Ellerson in the previous 5 seasons.
