Georgia Tech has suffered through a very disappointing season and is the underdog on the college football odds board for its annual rivalry matchup against Georgia.

They call it Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate when the Georgia Bulldogs and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets get together on a football field. Like any rivalry, the W-L records really don't mean much when the teams get together.

That's certainly the case this time when we find neither the Bulldogs nor the Yellow Jackets competing for a conference title like the college football futures odds suggested they would when the season began. Georgia Tech wraps its schedule up with this one, no bowl game in the picture, while Georgia is simply playing for runner-up in the SEC East.

Kickoff at Bobby Dodd Stadium is set for noon (ET). The Bulldogs are -5 at 5Dimes, their college football odds listing also having 48½ for the total.

The rivalry started with a zero-zero tie back in 1902 when neither school was associated with a conference. Georgia has built a 64-40-5 advantage over the Yellow Jackets along the way, the teams meeting each year since 1925. The Bulldogs have snagged the dubya in 12 of the last 14 meetings, and taken the last six played in Atlanta.

Georgia Tech halted a 5-game losing streak to the Bulldogs last year with a wild 30-24 win between the hedges in Athens, the second consecutive collision between the schools that needed overtime to decide. The Yellow Jackets, ranked No. 9 at the time, were 10½ point road underdogs, giving the visitors a 13-2-1 spread record in the last 16 meetings. The final never made it to a 68 point total, the third 'under' winner in the last four clashes.

'Dawgs Coming Up Big For 'Under' Bettors
Georgia (8-3 straight up, 4-7 against the spread) avoided an embarrassing upset loss last week at home, needing a late field goal to tie Georgia Southern before finally winning in overtime, 23-17. The Bulldogs closed as nearly two touchdown favorites in the contest, a couple of fumbles nearly costing Mark Richt's crew who picked up their third consecutive victory.

With its failure to cover against the Eagles marked the sixth losing ticket for backers of the bulldogs in their last eight games. The game never threatened a 51 point total, continuing a strong 'under' trend with a 5th-straight low-side winner, and seventh in the last eight.

With eight wins, UGA is locked in with three other SEC teams for the third best overall record in the conference. A 4th-straight win could push the Bulldogs up the totem pole as far as bowl invites go and put Georgia in position for a fourth 10-win season in the last five years.

A couple of injuries to note are Greg Pyke and Roquan Smith. Pyke's the junior starting right guard and questionable with a sore knee. Smith is a backup linebacker, and the freshman is also questionable due to a concussion.

Wreck Could Be Down To 3rd-String QB Again
Georgia Tech (3-8 SU & ATS) is coming off its third consecutive loss after suffering through another 5-game skid earlier this season. The Yellow Jackets traveled down to Miami as 2½ point road chalk and fumbled their way to an early deficit against the Hurricanes before losing 38-21. It was the third time this year that Paul Johnson's gang failed to win as road chalk, leaving the Ramblin' Wreck 0-5 SU and ATS outside of Atlanta.

They lost starting quarterback Justin Thomas to a head injury in the loss three weeks ago to Virginia Tech, and he only lasted one series in last week's defeat to Miami.  The junior is currently questionable for this one. Their original backup QB, Tim Byerly suffred a season-ending knee injury in Week 1, meaning redshirt freshman Matthew Jordan should be under center once again.

Cloudy and humid with temps in the upper-60s is the ATL forecast four days out from the game. My free college football pick is going to ride the series trend and go with another road team cover.
