Our trusty handicapper gives the breakdown on two of Saturday's College Football matchups. Find out why he is honing in on the spread for our College Football Picks on these games.

Michigan St. vs. Oregon  6:30 ET FOX
Oregon performed as expected in their Week 1 trouncing of S. Dakota, 62-13.  In so doing, Oregon gained a balance 672 yards against the outmanned Coyote. This is a far greater challenge as the Ducks now face a fellow Top 10 team in what can only be described as the Marquee Matchup of the Day. While Oregon was building confidence, Michigan St. was doing the same. The Spartans beat Jacksonville St. 45-7, profiting from a +3 net to margin, a 211-22 overland edge, while rolling up 565 total yards. The perception is that few will bet against the high-powered Oregon attack that has recorded a 47-6 SU mark L4Y and has 9 returning offensive starters, led by Heisman QB Mariota that averaged 45 PPG on a balanced 565 YPG. The reality, however, is that when facing this type of power attack, the Ducks have often lost their offensive rhythm and failed to win by dominant margins. Examples would be losses to Stanford L2Y, a team that is much of the same ilk as this Spartan contingent.  The pedigree of Michigan St. is evident from their 13-1 SU season of last that included a Rose Bowl victory against that aforementioned Stanford team. And while Oregon and their high-powered offense has been brought to mediocrity by their 10-12 ATS record as home chalk of late, Sparty under HC Dantonio continues to grind out victories in this role. In fact, Michigan St. is 7-0 ATS as underdog the past two seasons. Never easy to buck the perception of the high-scoring quack attack, but Top 10 Michigan St. as double digit dog provides the better reality of an ATS victory for our College Football Picks.

Virginia Tech vs. Ohio State (-11-) 8:00 ET ESPN
The Ohio State program has ascended under 3rd year HC Myer with a 24-2 SU 2 year mark. VA Tech has come upon hard times for veteran mentor 28th year HC Beamer. In the last 2 years, the Hokies are just 15-11 SU, 8-15-1 ATS.  A major culprit has been an offense which has averaged a combined 366 YPG and only 23 PPG in that time frame. Yet in typical Beamer fashion, look for the Hokies to get the most out of what they have. Though 9 starters return on offense, missing from that unit is graduated QB Thomas. Last week, VA Tech recorded an efficient 34-9 victory covering the 22 point impost against the Boys and Girls. Most impressive was the balanced 488 yards of offense including a 222-76 yard overland edge. Ohio State had an opening game that was not as impressive. The Buckeyes struggled, actually trailing in the 3rd quarter, before pulling away for a 34-17 win. But the Middies outrushed Ohio State 370-194 rolling up nearly 390 offensive yards. QB Brewer, a TTRR transfer, looked nearly as impressive as QB Barrett did manning the Buckeye attack. Doubtful that veteran HC Beamer changes his MO implying this to be a typical defensive oriented lower scoring dog favoring game with College Football odds points at a premium.
