Our college football betting odds expert Ross Benjamin has gone 24-9 this season at SBR. He provides us with an informative college football preview article on Saturday’s game between Oregon/Utah which includes a point-spread free pick.

Saturday Night Fever in Salt Lake City
The 17th ranked Utah Utes will host the 4th ranked Oregon Ducks on Saturday at Rice Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City. The game will be televised nationally by ESPN and is slated for a 10:00 PM ET opening kickoff. According to the college football betting odds at Pinnacle, Oregon is an 8.0 points favorite, and the posted total is 61.0. These teams met last season, and Oregon came away with a 44-21 home win, but failed to cover as a 28.5 point favorite.

Ducks Control their Destiny
Hypothetically if the season ended after week 10, the Ducks would qualify for the college football playoff as the #4 seed, and would face Mississippi Sate in one of the semifinal games on New Year’s Day. However, there’s still a lot of football left to play. Oregon has scored 42-points or more in 7 of their first 9-games of the season. Marcus Mariota continues to be the most dynamic quarterback in college football. All he’s done thus far in 2014 is throw for 26 touchdowns versus 2 interceptions, complete 68.1% of his pass attempts for 2541-yards, and rush 410 yards while scoring 7-touchdowns on the ground. Entering this week, the Ducks have a 3.0 game lead over California in the PAC12 North Division, and barring a monumental meltdown will be in the conference championship game.

Bouncing Back from a Heart Breaking Loss
The Utah Utes come off a gut wrenching 19-16 overtime loss at Arizona State last week. The Utes battled back from a 13-6 halftime deficit, took the lead 16-13 with 10 unanswered points in the 3rd quarter, only to see the Sun Devils tie it on a field goal with 5:56 to play in the 4th quarter, and they ultimately fell in overtime.  The loss dropped their record to 6-2 on the year, and eliminated them from any realistic opportunity to be in the college football 4-team playoff. They also have a tough road ahead, playing Oregon this week, at Stanford next week, and then will host currently #12 ranked Arizona.

Final Analysis
The Ducks enter this week on a 3-0 SU&ATS roll over their last 3-games, and are coming off a decisive 45-16 home win versus a formidable Stanford team, while covering easily as an 8.0 point favorite. Utah comes into this game with a winning percentage of .750. This sets up an extremely profitable betting system that we can take advantage of for a college football pick this week. Any conference away favorite that’s gone 3-0 SU&ATS in their last 3-games, and all 3 of those games were in conference play, versus an opponent with a winning percentage of .857 or less, has gone 33-7 ATS (82.5%) since 2002, and the away team won 39 of those 40-games straight up.
