Saturday CBS SEC Telecast features LSU and Ole Miss
#25 Ole Miss (7-3) and #17 LSU (7-2) will meet on Saturday in a SEC West encounter. The opening kickoff at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Mississippi is slated for 3:30 PM ET, and the game will be televised by CBS. Current (11/17) college football odds at BetCRIS show Ole Miss as a 4.0 point favorite, and a posted total of 56.0. LSU defeated Ole Miss a season ago in Baton Rouge 10-7.

Taming the Tigers
After starting the season 7-0, LSU has lost its last two games against Alabama and Arkansas. They were outscored in those two defeats 61-30, and outgained 874-542. The most shocking statistics as it related to LSU in those two contests was they ran for only a combined 113 yards, and allowed a sizable 449 yards on the ground. Heisman hopeful running back Leonard Fournette was held to 122 yards on 38 rushing attempts (3.2 YPA) in those two losses. Following this game, the Tigers close out their regular season by hosting Texas A&M.

Rebels Still Alive in SEC West
Ole Miss controlled their own destiny in the SEC West heading into their last game versus Arkansas. Unfortunately they suffered a 53-52 overtime upset loss to the Razorbacks as an 8.0 point home favorite. Now they’re going to have to win their final two games, and hope for some help along the way. They need to start by beating LSU on Saturday and Mississippi State in their regular season finale. If they’re fortunate enough to complete that task, they’ll need Auburn to beat Alabama, and either Mississippi State or Missouri to defeat a surging Arkansas Razorbacks team. If all the dots are connected, they’ll play in the SEC Championship Game against Florida. On an encouraging note pertaining to this upcoming game against LSU, the Rebels have rushed for a combined 608 yards during their previous three games.

Final Analysis and Pick
Both Alabama and Arkansas provided a blueprint in how to defend LSU. Each of those defenses stacked the box and challenged LSU to beat them with their passing game. Needless to say those defensive game plans worked to near perfection.

The Ole Miss defense has been very good against the run this season. They’re allowing an average of 126 yards per game on the ground, and have held their opponents to a mere 3.1 yards per rushing attempt. That bodes very well against LSU that relies heavily on it running game. This will also be the final home game of the season for Ole Miss, and that certainly will provide added emotion on “Senior Day”. The kicker is that Ole Miss was off last week, and will be well rested. I like the Rebels in this contest for one of my college football picks this week.
