Two popular teams in the College Football betting world are Ohio State, the defending champions, and Alabama, the team with more national titles than anyone else this century. Who can defeat them?

Michigan State Spartans (Priced at +2800 Odds to be College Football Playoffs Winner)
It is the one extremely tough regular season matchup for Ohio State. Michigan State has a veteran quarterback, Connor Cook, who will not be intimidated by Ohio State’s partisan crowd. Michigan State got buried by the Buckeyes’ offense last year, so the Spartans’ defense will be highly motivated to perform a lot better than it did a year ago. The Spartans have an excellent coach, Mark Dantonio, who will game plan effectively for the Buckeyes. This team can win with its power between the tackles, but it also has skilled playmakers on the outside. Michigan State has been built into the kind of program which reloads instead of having to rebuild every now and then. The Spartans have crossed a threshold, and you need to be that kind of team (usually) to play well against a juggernaut such as Ohio State. You need tested players who have been there before, and that’s what the Spartans have on their roster this season.

Auburn Tigers (+850 at 5Dimes)
There is no better chance for Alabama to lose in the regular season than to Auburn in the Tigers’ home stadium. You will recall that Auburn beat Alabama the last time the Crimson Tide made the journey to Jordan-Hare Stadium for a road game. Auburn needed some remarkable things to happen in that game, but Alabama still got rattled late in the game by Auburn’s energy and the crowd’s intensity. This year, Alabama looks less powerful than in previous seasons. It’s somewhat speculative, but there isn’t the sure-thing quarterback the Tide have had in the recent past. Auburn’s Jeremy Johnson is a very promising quarterback prospect, and the fact that he had some playing time last year, including one game as a starter, should give him and the Tigers more of an edge this season, and give us an opportunity for underdog College Football picks.

Georgia Bulldogs (+3300 from Bovada)
The Alabama Crimson Tide last came to Georgia in the previous decade. They won big, and they used that win to catapult themselves to an SEC West Division championship. They might win the division again, but Georgia doesn’t get to host Alabama very often, so the knowledge of that loss several years ago will motivate these Bulldogs to get the job done. This will be a highly emotional game in which anything can happen, and if Georgia can throw the ball just enough to keep Alabama’s defense honest, Bulldog running back Nick Chubb could go off and enjoy a big game at home.

Baylor Bears (+1800 from BetOnline)
The TCU Horned Frogs are also a good choice, but Baylor might be the Big 12 team best suited to beat either Ohio State or Alabama in the College Football Playoff. The Bears love to hit the big play with the pass, but when they rush the ball consistently, their offense becomes multi-dimensional and very hard to stop. Baylor is overflowing with speed, which makes for an enticing  even matchup with Ohio State, and Baylor can pound the ball against Alabama’s defensive front.
