FCS Bulldogs Challenge Nationally Ranked Tigers
The #5 Clemson Tigers will host South Carolina State on Saturday. The opening kickoff at Memorial Stadium in Clemson, South Carolina is slated for Noon ET. These teams last met in 2014, and Clemson won by a lopsided 73-7 score. At the time of this writing, none of the best sportsbooks have college football betting odds posted for this game.
Strenuous Early September Slate for South Carolina State
The FCS South Carolina State Bulldogs will play the finale of a grueling 3-game stretch against FBS opponents to start their 2016 season. Following Saturday’s game at Clemson, they’ll finish up with 9 games against fellow FCS teams.
The Bulldogs suffered a 38-0 defeat at Central Florida as a 26.0-point underdog in their season opener. They followed that up last week with a 53-24 loss at Louisiana Tech. Nonetheless, they did manage to cover that game in Ruston, Louisiana as a 34.5-point underdog. Needless to say, they were outmanned during both of those contests. Things won’t become any easier on Saturday. They’ll be facing a Clemson team that played in the national championship game against Alabama just eight months ago.
Do you want to know how lethargic this supremely talented Clemson team has been thus far? Despite winning each of their first two games, they’ve slid from #2 to #5 this week in the AP Poll. Clemson won 19-13 at Auburn in their season opener and failed to cover the point spread as a 7.5-point favorite. Last Saturday during their home opener, they were unimpressive in a 30-24 win over Troy and didn’t come close to covering as a mammoth 34.5-point favorite. Regardless of taking on a vastly inferior opponent this week, maybe Clemson’s slip in the polls will arouse them up a bit. Quite frankly, the Tigers have looked uninspired and disinterested thus far.
The top rated betting sites most likely won’t release a point spread for this contest until Friday, and when they do, Clemson will be an enormous favorite. Nonetheless, my personal power ratings show Clemson as 59.56 points better than Saturday’s FCS opponent. This game won’t be one of my college football predictions at this exact moment. I may possibly have the tiniest of leans later on in the week.
