We’ll be examining tonight’s NHL game between the Maple Leafs and Canadiens. Take the time to read our informative preview article on this contest which concludes with a selection on the total.

Oldest Rivalry in the NHL renewed on Saturday
The Montreal Canadiens will host their oldest rival tonight when the Toronto Maple Leafs comes to town. The opening face-off is slated for 7:05 PM ET. According to the NHL betting odds at BetOnline, Montreal is a large -225 money line favorite, and the posted total is 5.0. This will be the third meeting of the season between these teams, and Montreal has won each of the first two. These Atlantic Division foes have seen six of the last seven, and nine of their last eleven encounters go over the total.

Temporary Stop to the Bleeding
The Toronto Maple Leafs 2014-2015 NHL campaign has turned into nothing short of a nightmare after getting off to a relatively promising start. However, they’ve won each of their previous two games. Those two wins were preceded by a stretch in which the Leafs had lost sixteen of seventeen, and nineteen of twenty-one games. Toronto enters this Atlantic Division battle tonight having gone under the total in five of the previous six games, and hasn’t seen any of their previous four games on the road go over the total. As a matter of fact, Toronto has scored only nine goals combined over their last nine games on the road. Jonathan Bernier is expected to get the start in goal tonight for the Leafs. Bernier has posted a shining .932 save percentage during his last four starts, and has seen just five of his sixteen starts (31.3%) on the road go over the total.

<var>NHL Picks for Tonight's Best Plays on the Total</var>

Carey Price continues his Brilliant Play
You would be hard pressed to win an argument against Carey Price being the best goaltender in the NHL up to this point of the season. Price has gone 35-14 in forty-nine starts with a terrific .935 save percentage. The Canadiens have gone over the total in just sixteen of those forty-nine games (32.7%), and that includes only eight of the twenty-eight (28.6%) played on home ice.

Final Analysis
Considering the Maple Leafs recent struggles in scoring goals on the road, and both starting goaltenders playing at a high level right now, I’m going to lean toward this being a low scoring affair for one of my NHL picks on Saturday.

Free NHL Pick: Play on Toronto and Montreal to go Under the total of 5.0 at BetOnline.
