The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs and Arkansas State Red Wolves won’t have to go very far from home to play their bowl game. Join us inside as we present our free college football pick.

Momentum
These teams both carry an appreciable amount of momentum into this bowl game, though it’s a little more for one team than another.

Louisiana Tech has some momentum going into this game. The Bulldogs did win seven of eight games to power through to the forefront of Conference USA’s West Division. This was a very solid season for head coach Skip Holtz, one year after the Bulldogs won the West. Everyone was shooting for the Bulldogs, and they still held up very well under pressure. The only problem was that a Southern Mississippi team which had struggled a ton over the previous two seasons was able to turn things completely around. The Golden Eagles were reborn as a team and managed to win, 58-24, giving the Bulldogs a stinging loss at the end of what was generally a very good season. This bowl game is Louisiana Tech’s attempt to rebound from that game and leave the 2015 season with a great memory and a good achievement.

Arkansas State is the team that’s really on a roll. The Red Wolves didn’t just win the Sun Belt Conference championship this season. The team won the conference without losing a single game to anyone else in the Sun Belt. The Red Wolves are therefore carrying a very long winning streak into this game. This team doesn’t know what it’s like to lose right now, and while Louisiana Tech will try to stand in its way, Arkansas State could carry a lot of momentum into this game. The Sun Belt season ended on Dec. 5, so there will be a two-week break before this game. This upcoming Saturday will basically be a bye week followed by the season finale. Will that two-week break disrupt momentum, or will it offer just enough rest before this team concludes its season in style? It’s hard to say.

Line Moves
The college football odds started with Louisiana Tech as a 1.5-point favorite, and that line has stayed in place. Bettors aren’t sure what to make of either team. Did Louisiana Tech’s blowout loss to Southern Mississippi mean the Bulldogs are overrated, or is Conference USA superior to the Sun Belt? It’s not an easy call.

Notable Injuries
Louisiana Tech has linebacker Nick Thomason out indefinitely with a knee injury. Offensive lineman Kirby Wixson is out indefinitely with a shoulder injury. Linebacker Michael Mims is out for the season with an ACL injury.

Arkansas State has linebacker Justin Clifton listed as out for the season with a pectoral injury. Offensive lineman Jemar Clark is out for the season with a knee injury. Linebacker Tajhea Chambers is out for the season with a knee injury. Defensive back Bo Sentimore is out for the season with an ankle injury.

Handicapping The Game
Arkansas State is playing well – better than Louisiana Tech – but the Red Wolves have not played stronger competition, and that’s where Louisiana Tech should gain a real edge.
