The New Mexico Lobos have the worst third down conversion rate in FBS. That’s not a good way to make it out of Baton Rouge alive against the LSU Tigers. Read on for our New Mexico-LSU picks.

LSU is riding high off its first FBS win--and conference win--of the Brian Kelly era. An opportunity against New Mexico in Death Valley at night should be a feast for the Bayou Bengals.

Here are our top picks for New Mexico-LSU (odds via DraftKings Sportsbook and FanDuel Sportsbook).

New Mexico vs. LSU Picks

  • LSU -31 (-110 odds via DraftKings) ★★★★
  • Over 44.5 (-120 odds via FanDuel) ★★★
  • Daniels Over 188.5 Passing Yards (-115 odds via DraftKings) ★★★

New Mexico vs. LSU ATS Pick

LSU -31 (-110) ★★★★

After finishing as the worst FBS team against the spread in 2021 (1-11), the Lobos have started off 2-0-1 ATS so far this year. LSU is 2-1 ATS and was impressive against Mississippi State's previously dominant offense last week.

Frankly, this number isn’t as large as expected for Death Valley at night. New Mexico has the single worst FBS third-down conversion rate this season at 13.79%. That’s not a good recipe in this environment.

New Mexico vs. LSU O/U Pick

Over 44.5 (-120) ★★★

LSU got things cooking for 31 points against a capable SEC defense last week, so the notion they could hang 40 on the Lobos doesn’t seem far-fetched. New Mexico does boast a ballhawking defense that has intercepted six passes already this season, but Daniels has been smart with the football, producing a 6:0 touchdown - interception ratio.

The Lobos won’t have a ton of early offensive success, but a garbage time score to get to double-digits should be all this total needs to push Over behind LSU’s improving attack.

New Mexico vs. LSU Prop Pick

Daniels Over 188.5 passing yards (-115) ★★★

Tigers QB Jayden Daniels looked good in his dual-threat role in LSU’s win over Miss State last week, throwing for 210 yards and running for another 93. The matchup he didn’t clear this passing mark was when he sat half the game against Southern.

LSU head coach Brian Kelly noted that wideout Jack Bech needs more offensive involvement. Instead of taking off and running like he did last week, Daniels should air it out and clear this friendly passing total.
