This College Football handicapper’s ‘Underdog of the Week’ has been most impressive in the Pointspread Prognosis this season.  One particular pooch in Week 5 stands 4-0 ATS with 4 consecutive wins.

Opening week, Cal defeated Northwestern outright.  In week 2, it was VA Tech pulling the double-digit dog upset at Ohio St.  Two weeks ago, rivalry double-digit dog Iowa St. won outright at Iowa.  Then, last week, Miss St. led wire-to-wire in a 34-29 outright upset victory over high-powered LSU.  This week, it will be no surprise to this bureau that our selection on Arkansas is our 5th consecutive SUDW.

It is not very often that you find a 4-0 SU, 3-1 ATS team like Texas A&M, who has covered by a net of 78 points and who is laying 10 points less than they would have opening week.  That, however, is the type of respect given to this Arkansas team who has themselves started 3-1 SU ATS with coverage by a net of 70 points.  A look at the schedule and the stats points out why value remains on this College Football underdog.  The opening day 52-28 rout of S. Carolina is looking less impressive by the week.  Following that, the Aggies have devoured a trio of creampuffs in Lamar, Rice, and SMU, all as favorite of 31 or more points.  Now, they must take their sated selves to lineup against an Arkansas team that’s for real.  In last year’s first season, under HC Bielema, Arkansas had a consecutive disappointing season.  At the close of 2013, the Razorbacks were on a 2 year slide of 6-17 SU, 6-15 ATS.  Yet, it was obvious that Bielema was clearly installing his preferred ground attack, as the Hogs motored for 209/5.3 last season.  In year 2, the transition has been complete.  An opening day loss to powerful Auburn is no disgrace.  Victories the last 2 weeks, against TTRR by 21 and N. Illinois by 38, were quite impressive.  Behind the leadership of QB Allen, Arkansas is averaging an impressive 325/7.1 overland.  That is sure to cause problems for a still-suspect Aggie defensive front 7.  When the dust clears at this neutral court site, it will be no surprise that the vaunted Arkansas ground game and better defense results in the 5th consecutive outright upset for the 'Underdog of the Week' in this column.
