From time to time on these pages, I will write about a team whose good or bad fortune in recent weeks begs the question are they FAUX or FO’REAL? Read on and get your college football pick.

Wyoming vs Nebraska (-24) Noon ET ESPN2
What a fantastic start to the 2016 football season on this site!  Combined with a 3-0 ATS mark on NFL-X games, the College Football Picks in Week 1 went 7-1 ATS for a combined mark of 10-1 ATS to begin your football season! I assure you that every weekend will not be that good. But, if you follow the advice in my analyses this season, there is an extremely, high probability you will have more winners than losers.

Today’s query concerns the Wyoming Cowboys. They will be lining up against the Nebraska team, who put to rest the questions of their own fans with a resounding opening week win.

Last year, traditional power Nebraska tried to fit a square peg into a round hole, when they hired HC Riley from Oregon St. Riley had a history of pro-style attack that was far more pass-oriented than the power running game and option running offense of Nebraska. Many questioned the hire with good reason. When the dust settled, the Huskers had a rare losing season at 6-7 SU, despite a Bowl victory against UCLA. This year, the Huskers, off that rare sub.500 season, are on a mission to return the program to the excellence of the past 50 years.

15 RS were caught in a whirlwind season of last, when no fewer than 4 Nebraska defeats were by 5 or fewer points. Nebraska turned the train around against quickly fading Fresno St. in their opener with a 43-10 win and cover as (-28), as they dominated the line of scrimmage with a 292-31 advantage. That result was not surprising. Later that night, in a game delayed until nearly midnight ET, Wyoming would take the field as 10 point underdog against N. Illinois, a traditionally strong road team.

The Cowboys are in the 3rd year under HC Craig Bohl. You will remember Bohl as the former HC of N. Dakota St., who took that program to FCS heights. In 2 years, however, the Cowboys have gone just 6-18 SU, averaging 20/370 on offense. Traditionally, 3rd-year coaches have enough of their own recruits to effectuate change in a downtrodden program. At this crossroads, it is important to identify the program as being FAUX or FO’ REAL?

In this case, I believe the Wyoming (40-34) OT victory against traditional MAC power, N. Illinois, signals a crossroads. For, the Cowboys not only scored 40 points but put up balanced 491 yards in the contest. This game holds special meaning for HC Bohl, who faces off against his Alma Mater. In addition, while rebuilding the fortunes of the Cowboys, Bohl has also been a profitable 8-4 ATS as double digit dog. That fits hand in glove against HC Riley, who at Oregon St. and Nebraska, is now a recent 4-10 ATS as home chalk.

With the Huskers looking dead ahead to their visit from the Oregon Ducks next week, it will be no surprise if Wyoming does no worse than come through the back door and prove once again that they are FO’ REAL!
