Two games Friday that we are looking to parlay so let’s get right to it. SMU brings their high-powered offense to take on Tulane. In our other matchup, we’ve got another top 25 team in BYU taking on Houston to round out or Friday games.

SMU Mustangs vs. Tulane Green Wave

Friday, October 16, 2020 – 06:00 PM EDT at Yulman Stadium

SMU' High-Powered Offense is Scary

There's one strange statistic about SMU this season. Even though they have a high-powered offense that averages 44 points per game on the season, they are actually 3-1 to the under. That is also a clear indication that their totals have been incredibly high. It also helps that their defense has been holding opponents to 23.2 per game.

Tulane for their part was let down by their defense after jumping out to a 17-7 lead against eventually losing 49-31. They're pass blocking in that loss to Houston was embarrassing. They'll need to be much better against SMU who are 5-1 ATS on the road in their last six meetings with Tulane.

Personally, I think that SMU is better than Tulane on both sides of the ball and this could turn into a real blow out here. On the SBR college football odds page, this line opened at 7.5 and action on Tulane has seen the line moved down to -6.5 at most shops. I'm taking the -6 (-115) that is available at BetOnline.

BYU Cougars vs. Houston Cougars

Friday, October 16, 2020 - 09:30 PM EDT at TDECU Stadium

This Game Should Be a Shootout

BYU is a big physical football team that has a legitimate chance to go undefeated this season. In my opinion, they have the talent to play in the college playoffs although it's still a little early to think that far ahead. The other thing is I still need to see BYU's defense play a little better and they will be tested against Houston. The Cougars have a high-powered offense themselves although I don't see any way their defense can stop BYU.

The total for this game opened at 60.5 and action on the Under has seen it bet up to 62.5 which is still not nearly enough points to me. I think this game gets into the 70's with both defenses not being the strong suit of either team. BYU's defense isn't bad but I do think that Houston can get into the high 20's or even low 30's while I think BYU will easily get above their average which is 43.8 points per game in the spot.

I think the fact that Houston has only played one game so far this season is a huge disadvantage to them and we saw that rust early on against Tulane although they were able to come back and win. I don't see that happening against this imposing BYU squad. I like the Over for my college football picks.
