Even if fully healthy, it would have been a huge long shot for Oregon State to win at No. 5 Washington in Pac-12 action on Saturday. Down to their third string QB, do they have a chance against the NCAF odds?

 Beavers Down To Third-String QB

Oregon State (2-4, 1-2 Pac-12) was winless in the Pac-12 last year in Coach Gary Andersen's first season as coach so 2016 already has been a success with a conference victory, coming Oct. 8 in overtime over California to end the Beavers' 12-game Pac-12 losing streak. The winning touchdown in that one was courtesy of a 16-yard run from OSU quarterback Darell Garretson. More on him shortly.

Last week in Corvallis, Oregon State pushed No. 21 Utah but lost in a good effort 19-14. However, the Beavers also saw Garretson, backup quarterback Conor Blount and No. 1 tailback Ryan Nall leave with injuries. Garretson, a transfer from Utah State, is done for the season with a broken ankle and Blount  will miss at least this week with a knee injury.

So third-string sophomore Marcus McMaryion will start against one of the nation's best defenses. He completed 5 of 9 passes for 76 yards off the bench against Utah and did play in seven games last year with one start vs. Oregon. McMaryion was 27-for-67 for 403 yards, a touchdown and three interceptions overall in 2015. His backup will be redshirt true freshman Mason Moran, whom OSU was hoping to redshirt.  As it is, Oregon State ranks 121st nationally in passing offense at 146.0 yards per game. The Washington defense is the best in the Pac-12 and 13th nationally against the pass allowing 177.3 yards per game.

Nall, who rushed for 221 yards and three touchdowns in the upset of Cal, left after a 32-yard first-quarter carry vs. Utah with a foot injury and doesn't know if he can play vs. Washington.

Oregon State is 4-2 ATS on college football odds this season and 2-4 O/U.

Huskies Rolling And Rested

No. 5 Washington (6-0, 3-0 Pac-12) seems to have a clear path to the College Football Playoff as long as it wins out. The Huskies are off their bye week, which might have come at a bad time since in the previous two games before that they crushed Oregon 70-21 to end a 12-game losing streak in that series and won 44-6 at then-No. 7 Stanford.

I don't think there's any question this is the best team in the Pac-12 and the Huskies are -200 favorites at SBR's best sportsbooks to win the conference title game. While Louisville's Lamar Jackson is the clear Heisman leader, Washington sophomore quarterback Jake Browning is in the conversation. He's your Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year so far in completing 72.2 percent of his passes for 23 touchdowns with just two picks. He leads the nation in passer rating and also has rushed for three scores.

Meanwhile, tailback Myles Gaskin is second in the Pac-12 with 599 rushing yards (6.1 ypc) and receiver John Ross leads with nine TD catches. Defensively, Washington leads the country in fumble recoveries (12) and sacks (4.0 per game) and is seventh in scoring defense (14.2 ppg). The Dawgs have also turned 17 takeaways into 66 points.  The Huskies are 4-2 ATS on college football picks and 5-1 O/U.

UW has won four straight vs. Oregon State. Last year it was 52-7 in Corvallis. Browning threw four TD passes and had only two incompletions in 20 attempts. Gaskin rushed for 127 yards. The Beavers had just eight first downs.

NCAAF Free Picks: That's an awful lot of points go give, but how will Oregon State score much? The only way UW doesn't cover is if it's looking ahead to next week's trip to No. 21 Utah. So give the points and go 'over.' Washington is 4-0 ATS in the past four meetings. The 'over' is 5-2 in the past seven.
