Ross Benjamin provides his betting preview on Saturday’s nationally televised game between Syracuse and Clemson. The article concludes with Ross’ free college football pick.

College Football Week 10 Odds: Syracuse vs. Clemson

Syracuse (4-4) will travel to “Death Valley” on Saturday to take on the #3 ranked Clemson Tigers (8-0). Opening kickoff from Clemson Memorial Stadium is slated for 3:30 PM ET, and the game will be televised by ESPN2.

The college football betting odds at Bookmaker has Clemson as a 27.0-point favorite, and there’s a total of 61.0. Bookmaker is presently offering new customers 50% cash bonuses on all initial deposits of up to $300.

Recent Meetings

Since joining the ACC, Syracuse is 0-3 against Clemson. However, the Orange managed to cover the past 2 meetings by a combined 27.0 points. Clemson won 30-20 last season at Syracuse, and fell far short of covering as a 30.0-point favorite.

Explosive Offenses

First-year Syracuse head coach Dino Babers lightning fast tempo offense has been extremely entertaining to watch. Syracuse has amassed 500 or more yards of total offense in 4 of its 8 games thus far. The Orange passing attack has been especially potent. Despite passing on a modest 53.6% of its offensive plays, the Syracuse passing game has accounted for 73.2% of their total yards. Syracuse has 350 or more yards passing in 6 of 8 games this season. Sophomore quarterback Eric Dungey has flourished in Dino Babers offense. Dungey started all 8 games this season, completed 64.7% of his attempts, and has thrown for an extremely impressive 2631 yards and 15 touchdowns. He’s also collected 289 yards rushing, and ran for 6 touchdowns as well.

Clemson’s offense is dynamic, averaging 36.6 points and 478.2 yards per game. Their catalyst is junior quarterback Deshaun Watson who’s passed for 2328 yards and 22 touchdowns while completing 63.0% of his attempts. Watson has also ran for an additional 313 yards. The Tigers have seen 3 of their last 4 games go over the total, and there was a combined average of 64.0 points scored per contest.

College Football Betting Angle

Any home team (Clemson) with a total of 56.5 to 63.0, and possesses a +1.27 or better yards per play differential, versus an opponent (Syracuse) that has a + 0.60 yards per play differential, resulted in those games going 27-6 (81.8%) over the total since 1992. There was a combined average of 74.5 points scored per game during those 33 contests.

Despite Clemson being a prohibitive favorite in this contest, there will be plenty of points scored, and will make for a very entertaining game to watch. One of my college football week 10 predictions will concur with that prior statement.
