Joe Gavazzi makes his weekly College Football pick of a team who is an underdog of 7 or more points. Last week, it was Northwestern, who romped to an outright victory as double digit dogs against the Hawkeyes.

 N. Illinois vs W. Michigan (-19) 6:30 ET CBC TV

For those of you who heeded the advice of last week’s article entitled  The CFB Double Rushers and the 200 Club, you profited handsomely with Saturday’s selections that went 6-2 ATS.  Selections on this site are now 29-17 ATS with more winners on tap for this weekend.

Each week in this space, I make an UNDERDOG selection on a team who is an underdog of 7 or more points.  Last week, it was the Northwestern Wildcats, who romped to an outright victory as double digit dog against the Iowa Hawkeyes. This week, it’s the N. Illinois Huskies, a series dominator, who flashed the BUY sign in their opening week MAC contest last Saturday.

Piling up top-ranked recruiting classes year after year, 4th year W. Michigan HC Fleck has the Broncos as the team to beat in the MAC.  In their league opener last week, they stormed past rival, C. Michigan 49-10, with a 254-99 overland advantage.  The (+2) net TO margin in this game brings them to (+9) TOs for the season.  The high-powered offense is led by QB Terrell, who is completing nearly 70% of his passes with a 12/0 ratio.   All that success has not been lost on the linemaker.  Having covered the number by 84 points, Western is now a nearly 3 TD favorite in a game where they would have been favored over the Huskies by just a FG on opening week.

Remember the AFP article from 3 weeks ago?  It has clearly worked its magic in this contest! Beset by injuries in the 2nd half of last season, N. Illinois was fortunate to cruise to their 6th consecutive MAC West title.  This year, the Huskies are again undergoing an injury-plagued season.  Along with a travel schedule that saw them start the campaign with a midnight game at the altitude of Wyoming, followed by a Week 2 contest in the heat and humidity of S. Florida, the Huskies began the season 0-4 SU.  Last week, they flashed a BUY sign, when they inserted QB Maddie into the lineup.  All he did was lead the Huskies to a 200 “clubbing” of outmanned Ball with 653 yards.  In the NIU run to MAC superiority, Western has been an annual victim.  The scores in reverse beginning with last year have shown NIU on top by scores of 27-19, 31-21, 33-14, 48-34, 51-22, 28-21 and 38-3.  AND NOW, THEY ARE A 19 POINT DOG IN A GAME WHERE THE LINE WAS MORE THAN 2 TDS HIGHER FROM OPENING WEEK!  Now, that’s AFP magic with a series dominator!

I invite you to put the College Football ODDS in your favor and join me in my College Football PICK on N. Illinois this evening.
