Miami, FL (-7) at GA Tech Noon ET

We enter Week 5 of the 2016 CFB season with enough statistical data to feel comfortable with its relevance. If you believe that the numbers don’t lie, you will want to review this week’s Article on this site entitled CFB Double Rushers and the 200 Club. It will give you a strong base for your statistical handicapping. Remember, that value remains the name of the game.  Use your AFP theory, described in an Article 2 weeks ago, to continue to search for contrary plays at best prices. For the football season on this site, selections are now 22-13 ATS (63%) with a plethora of winners for this week.

Georgia Tech HC Johnson enters his 9th year as headman of the Yellow Jackets. Tech was an annual Bowl participant in all of those seasons until last year. Coming off an 11-3 SU record of 2014 and with 14 RS, far more was expected from the Yellow Jackets than a 3-9 SU season with but one ACC victory. Last week’s 26-7, Thursday night home loss to Clemson, however, showed just how far Tech needs to go to return to the winning team of yore. The embarrassment included gaining just 124 total yards and only 95 yards overland from their vaunted triple-option offense.  It is unlikely that they return to health against an opponent and a coach, who have dominated them in recent times. Last year, GA Tech lost to this Miami, FL team on November 21st by a score of 38-21 as they committed 4 critical TOs.

Miami looks like they are returning to the form that had led them to national prominence at various times in the last 30 years. First year HC Mark Richt has benefitted from 15 RS to craft a 3-0 SU ATS slate against relatively weak competition.  The 45-10 win and cover at App St. was a ringing endorsement, however, as they outgained the Mountaineers (a team who took Tennessee to OT) by a yardage count of 549-241.  Now, they have two weeks to prepare for the GA Tech triple-option, as if they needed it.  Miami has won and covered 6 of the last 7 games against Tech, all with Johnson in control of the Yellow Jackets.  But, as if that was not enough, consider the record of HC Richt in his annual battles with the rival Yellow Jackets during his time as headman at Georgia.  In his 8 visits to this field as headman of Georgia, Richt’s Georgia Bulldogs won and covered 8 consecutive games on this field. Can it be any wonder that this game clearly qualifies as our IF IT AINT BROKE, DON’T FIX IT GAME OF THE WEEK.
