Buffalo boasts a 4-1 mark over their first five contests and will travel to Central Michigan where the 1-4 Chippewas await. Let’s check out this game as well as all the other action in the MAC this weekend.

This week they will return from their journey to East Lansing and host the MAC-leading Buffalo Bulls, a team that they have not played since October of 2015 when the Chippewas delivered a 51-14 beating.

But this is 2018 and most of the players from that game are currently working real jobs, which is why we must banish that Buffalo beatdown from our collective memories and analyze this matchup based on the here and now. Buffalo is coming off a stinging 42-13 loss to Army where they fell for the first time this season while the Chippewas hung tough enough against the Spartans to get the cash in our college football picks.

The bottom line is that there is not much room that separates the outhouse from the penthouse in the MAC but the masses will view this as a case of the haves versus the have-nots. We like that public perception because it manifests in an inflated line where Central Michigan is getting slightly north of a touchdown from the oddsmakers despite the fact that the Chips are 6-0 ATS in their last six conference games, 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games overall, and 4-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record. However, there are trends favoring the Eagles in this matchup as they are 10-1-1 ATS in their last 12 road games vs. a team with a winning home record, 12-2 ATS in their last 14 games following a straight up loss, and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games after allowing more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game.

Northern Illinois at Ball State (-3 ½), 3:00 PM ET on ESPN 3: Both conference rivals check in with 2-3 records and both teams won and covered the spread last week as they enter this Week 6 clash. However, Northern Illinois crushed Ball State 63-17 last year and has dominated this series going 8-2 both straight up and ATS over their last 10 meetings.

Miami (OH) at Akron (-3), 3:30 PM ET: Akron dropped their last two on the road but they battled hard against Northwestern and Iowa State as big underdogs in both. Expect the Zips to exact sweet revenge over their 24-14 loss to the RedHawks last season where they are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 conference games.

Ohio (-12 ½) at Kent State, 3:30 PM ET: Ohio has covered their last two contests and whooped Kent State last season to the tune of 48-3. Last week told the tale of two teams going in opposite directions as the Bobcats trounced U Mass 58-42 while the Golden Flashes were being handled 52-24 by MAC rival Ball State. Lay it.

Bowling Green at Toledo (TBD), 3:30 PM ET: The college football odds are not out on this one yet as the status of Toledo’s junior quarterback Mitchell Guadagni is up in the air as he did not take the field in the second half of the Rockets’ 49-27 loss to Fresno State. Toledo pounded the Falcons last season 66-37 and should be a substantial favorite once the line is released.
