ACC superpowers collide as No. 3 ranked Louisville travels to Memorial Stadium to take on the 5th ranked Clemson Tigers. Let’s review the college football odds and get on the right side in this pivotal matchup.

Louisville (4-0 SU, 3-0-1 ATS) vs. Clemson (4-0 SU, 2-2 ATS)

This one is almost good enough to watch without even having a bet on it. Oh, who am I kidding, every game is better when an investment is involved and particularly one where you’re on the right side in your college football picks. This is the proverbial irresistible force against the immovable object. On one side we have the Louisville Cardinals, stunningly the top scoring team in the nation, against a voracious Clemson defense allowing a mere 11 points per game, ranking them 5th in the country.

The Cardinals are the surprise team of the season and have put all the pieces of a high-flying offense together, courtesy of a one-man wrecking crew named Lamar Jackson who has 13 passing touchdowns to go along with 12 rushing touchdowns in the span of four games! The sophomore sensation is putting up other-wordly numbers and is bolstered by running back Brandon Radcliff on the ground and wideout James Quick through the air. Louisville’s defense has taken a back seat to their prolific offense but are doing a fine job themselves, holding opponents to an average of 22.5 points per game which places them 46th in the nation.

The Clemson Tigers competed for a national title last season and are back again with no discernible change to their vaunted defense. Clemson’s defense is allowing a paltry 11 points per game (tied for 5th) and their offense is ranked 55th in the country with an average of 33.5 PPG. The Tigers easily handled Georgia Tech last week as 10 ½ point road favorites with a 26-7 victory.

It would be foolish to take Clemson lightly, particularly at home, but this Louisville offense is from another dimension. A team averaging an eye-popping 63.5 PPG is not going to suddenly go silent. In addition, the Cardinals have a very good stop unit of their own and should give the Tigers problems when they have the ball. And for those who love trends regardless of how far back they go then you can look at Louisville’s 6-1 ATS mark in road games where the total is between 63 ½ and 70. It just so happens the total currently stands at 68 in most offshore sportsbooks.

I am not going to tug on superman’s cape and dare Lamar Jackson to put up points. I’d much rather be on his side than against him, with all due respect to the Tigers’ defense. Let’s go where the money is going as Louisville has gone from a 2-point college football odds underdog to a 2-point favorite. Either way, it won’t matter as the Cardinals will win this one by six or more.
