Our college football analyst takes examines Friday’s game between Louisiana Tech and Rice. Join us in reading this article which includes his college football pick on the total.

Bulldogs invade Rice Stadium on Friday Night
Louisiana Tech (5-3) and Rice (4-3) will meet on Friday night in a Conference USA clash. The opening kickoff at Rice Stadium in Houston, Texas is slated for 8:00 PM ET, and it will be televised by Fox Sports1. Early college football betting odds at Bookmaker has Louisiana Tech as a 13.0 point favorite, and a posted total of 64.0. Louisiana Tech destroyed Rice last season during a 76-31 win as a 7.0 point home favorite. These teams have met in each of the past three seasons since joining CUSA. All three of those contests went over the total, and there was a combined average of 88.7 points scored.

Inept Defenses
Let’s simplify this topic and dummy everything down. Louisiana Tech has seen all four of their road games go over the total this season. They’ve certainly been a major contributor to those high scoring games, allowing 39.0 points and 421.2 yards per contest. During those four games, they’ve allowed opponents to average a whopping 9.0 yards per passing attempt

Rice has allowed an average of 36.9 points and 446.3 yards per game this season. They’re also allowing their opponents a mammoth 9.9 yards per passing attempt. That’s especially not good news considering they’ll be facing a Louisiana Tech team averaging 321 yards passing per game.

More than capable Offenses
The offense of Louisiana Tech has averaged 37.7 points and 480.6 yards per game this season. They’ve scored 33 points or more in six of their eight games. The Bulldogs four road games have averaged a combined 70.2 points scored per outing.

Rice’s offense isn’t quite as prolific as their opponent on Friday. However, they’re still pretty productive nonetheless. The Owls are averaging 30.6 points and 436.3 yards per game.

Final Thoughts
This has all the earmarks of a high scoring game. Barring any inclement weather in the Houston area on Friday night it should play true to form. The scoreboard operator will undoubtedly have his work cut out for him. Needles to say, I like this contest to be a high scoring affair, and one of my college football picks will be reflective of that sentiment.
