The Maryland Terrapins and the Ohio State Buckeyes both looked really bad last week but can Ohio State cover a huge number? By crunching numbers & stats we came with the college football pick.

Momentum
The Terrapins were an absolute disaster on offense against Michigan. Caleb Rowe imploded in the face of the Wolverines’ pressure. Maryland barely moved the ball all game, staying under 100 yards deep into the second half. Rowe could not make basic plays or finish simple, short throws. Rowe was a fill-in quarterback after head coach Randy Edsall felt he needed to shake things up under center. If a fill-in quarterback can’t do much of anything, where can Maryland and Edsall turn for more production? It’s a real mystery at this point. The Terrapins are bad, they are powerless, and they are banged up, as you’ll see below. They have absolutely nothing going for them at this point.

The Ohio State Buckeyes are still unbeaten, but barely. They skated by Indiana, and while their offense remains very inconsistent – which brings up its own share of concerns – the defense’s inability to shut down Indiana in the second half has to be much more alarming. The Buckeyes’ defense had been consistently great, but that identity slipped and lost some of its validity against Indiana. The problems with Cardale Jones at quarterback are important to keep track of, and people near the program are wondering if J.T. Barrett deserves to come back in and get his shot at quarterback. Yet, the defense has to be counted on if this season is going to live up to its promise for the Buckeyes.

Line Moves
The college football odds started with Ohio State as a 31.5-point favorite, but that line has moved up to 33.5 points for the Buckeyes. Maryland is simply that bad. The Terps got blown out by Michigan at home, so bettors figure that Ohio State at home can do even more.

Notable Injuries
Maryland has offensive tackle Mike Minter out for the season with a shoulder injury. Defensive lineman Adam McLean is out for the season due to eligibility issues. Defensive back Antwaine Carter is out for the season with an Achilles injury. Tight end Andrew Isaacs is out indefinitely with a knee injury. Defensive lineman David Shaw is out for the season with an elbow injury. Linebacker Brett Zanotto is out indefinitely with an ankle injury. Linebacker Jefferson Ashiru is out for the season with an ankle injury. Linebacker Abner Logan is out for the season with a knee injury.

Ohio State has defensive back Damon Webb listed as being out indefinitely with a suspension. Running back Curtis Samuel is probable for this game with a back injury. Wide receiver Parris Campbell has been upgraded to probable for this game with a knee injury. Defensive back Cam Burrows is questionable with a foot injury. Wide receiver Corey Smith is out for the season with a leg injury. Cornerback Gareon Conley is questionable with an undisclosed condition. Running back Mike Weber is questionable with a knee injury.

Handicapping The Game
The Terrapins are worse than the Buckeyes are struggling. Maryland’s downturn is severe enough to warrant an Ohio State selection for your college football picks.
