Momentum
The Bowling Green machine just keeps rolling along. The Falcons won 62-24 over Ohio last Wednesday. The previous two games were 59-10 and 48-0 wins over the lesser lights in the MAC, so Bowling Green is clearly playing up to its standards. This is one of the three or four programs in the conference which reloads every season. Head coach Dino Babers is a hot commodity in the coaching world. It is felt and thought by many in the business that he’ll have a bigger opportunity at a power conference school when he wants it, and if an athletic director asks him to come aboard. There’s just not much fault one can find with what the Falcons have been doing this season. Their only losses are to Tennessee, a team which nearly beat Alabama in Tuscaloosa, and a Memphis team which just lost its first game of the season.

Western Michigan hasn’t been too shabby, either. A 54-7 win over Ball State last Thursday was the latest relatively easy win for coach P.J. Fleck’s team. Fleck is another rising star in the coaching business, a man who should also be employed by a more prestigious school fairly soon. WMU has won its last few games by scores of 49-14, 35-13, and 58-28 before the bombing of Ball State. Both teams are on a roll.

Line Moves
The college football odds started with this contest being a 3.5-point game for Bowling Green. It has slightly moved down to three points for the Falcons. Western Michigan playing at home certainly has something to do with this. The fact that the Broncos have played well also shapes the movement of this line.

Notable Injuries
Bowling Green has kicker Anthony Farinella out indefinitely with a back injury. Defensive back Darrell Hunter is out indefinitely with an undisclosed condition. Offensive lineman Christian Piazza is out for the season with an undisclosed condition. Defensive lineman Gus Schwieterman is out for the season with a foot injury.

Western Michigan has offensive guard James Kristof out for the season with a knee injury. Defensive back Justin Tranquil is out for the season with a knee injury.

Handicapping The Game
The loss by Toledo to Northern Illinois last Tuesday has given Western Michigan even more of a belief that it can swoop in and win the West, so if Western Michigan wins this game, we could realistically witness a rematch in the MAC Championship Game a month from now in Detroit. That’s just part of the backdrop to this highly-anticipated game.

These two teams, as you can see, are good. They are playing consistently well in part because they have not taken on many injuries. You should see the best of each team in this game, but if that’s the case, Bowling Green is the better team. Take the Falcons with your college football picks.
