Lay The Points With Boise St. In Cactus Bowl Over Ice Cold Baylor

Boise St Broncos Players take the field

Ross Benjamin has been on a roll with a 48-24 ATS run this College Football season, and now he is setting his sights on finding a winner in the Cactus Bowl between the Baylor Bears and The Boise St. Broncos.

College Football Bowl Game Predictions: Baylor Bears vs. Boise State Broncos

Baylor (6-6) will meet Boise State (10-2) in the Cactus Bowl on Tuesday 12/27. The opening kickoff from Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona is slated for 10:15 PM ET, and the game will be televised by ESPN.

At the time of this writing (12/7), college football betting odds at Bookmaker.com has Boise State as a 7.5-point favorite, and the posted total is 66.5. Bookmaker is an A+ graded sportsbook, and that can be verified by a highly respected online sports betting rating guide.

Rare Bowl Situation

Baylor began the season by going 6-0, and has since proceeded to lose 6 games in a row. My college football 4D handicapping software program provides me with results dating back to 1980. Hence, I discovered this will be the first time since 1980 in which a team entered a bowl game having lost 6 consecutive games. As a matter of fact, during this current 6-game losing streak, Baylor has allowed a massive 43.7 points per game, and their opponents averaged 550.7 yards of total offense per game.

Proverbial Chalks

Boise State has been a favorite in all 12 of their games this season. Despite going 10-2, the Broncos were a dismal 3-9 ATS in those contests. Part of the reason for their lack of ATS success was being a favorite by 13.0-points or more in 10 of those 12 games. Obviously, being a favorite against Baylor in the Cactus Bowl won’t be an unfamiliar role for the Broncos. The last time Boise State was an underdog goes way back to 12/31/2014 in a bowl game against Arizona.

Final Take and ATS Pick

Baylor has just 1 win this season against a FBS opponent with a winning record. The Bears coaching staff is in lame duck status since it’s highly unlikely any of them will be retained. There’s not going to be a whole lot of motivation for Baylor in this postseason game against a team from outside the “Power 5”. Conversely, anytime Boise takes the field against a major conference opponent, it’s always a big game for them. I’m going with the Cactus Bowl favorite for one of my college football picks.
