NCAAF bettors be advised that with so many contenders dropping like flies in the Pac-12, the Utah Utes have emerged as contenders. They’re a 2.5-point favorite on the college football betting odds vs. Oregon State.

The Utah Utes Can Win Because…
The Beavers haven’t been that impressive. Yes, they are also 4-1 but it says something about the quality of opponents that they’ve played that Utah is ranked No. 20 and Oregon State isn’t even in the Top 25. With all due respect to the Beavers, their wins have come against Portland State, Hawaii, San Diego State and Colorado. What hurts them even more is the margin of victory: Portland State was only by 15, Hawaii was an eight-point win and Colorado was a mere five.

Utah has proven to be quite rugged as they have a signature win versus No. 8 UCLA on their resume already – and that win was on the road. Yes, they have a blemish with the 28-27 home loss to Washington State but other than falling asleep in that game, they’ve been pretty good. Their offense has scored at least 26 points every week and their defense is giving up just 21.4 per game.

The Utes have exactly what they need to go on the road and win this game: a stout defense and a very reliable ground game. They lead the nation with 5.6 sacks per game while on the other side, Devontae Booker and company present a very physical ground game that the Beavers will have a tough time containing.

The Oregon State Beavers Can Win Because…
Before placing your College Football pick on the Utes, know that Utah isn’t as good as they look. So far this season, their 20th ranking is based on their win at UCLA. Yes, that looked good at the time but UCLA just got crushed at home by Oregon this week. They also nearly lost to Texas and squeaked by Virginia. If that UCLA win proves to be anything less than a signature, then the Utes are a very average team. Utah blew a 21-point first half lead at home to Washington State en route to a 28-27 loss. Their other wins were against a lousy Michigan team and cupcakes like Fresno State and Idaho State. That’s nothing impressive.

The Pac-12 has been full of surprises but if Oregon State wins here, that won’t be a really big shock. These two teams are about equal and the Beavers have home-field advantage.

Outlook & Pick
Road teams are doing fantastic in Pac-12 play. They’ve won 14 of 18 games, if you can believe that. That’s a good omen for the Utes in this spot.

The Utes have an excellent pass rush and they should feast on the frail Beavers offensive line, which has allowed 12 sacks in five games. On top of that, the Beavers run defense is missing Jalen Grimble, so they’ll be weaker without their starting defensive tackle.

College Football odds opened at -1.5 in Utes and climbed to -3 before dropping back down to -2.5 at Pinnacle. Take the Utes in this spot. They’re the better team.
