In the Sooner State, football kicks off with Tulsa traveling to Stillwater to take on No. 10 ranked Oklahoma State on Thursday night in a contest that will be shown on FS1 on your cable dial.

After playing regularly in the last century, this is only the third meeting between Tulsa and Oklahoma State since 2001 and first in six years. In the last 24 years, the Cowboys are 9-2 and 6-5 ATS in this series, and at what is now known as Boone Pickens Stadium Okie State is 6-0 and 4-2 ATS. The college football odds opened with Oklahoma State at -17 and that is now up to -18 and the total has climbed from 71 to 74. Both these teams were 10-3 a year ago and still have high aspirations.

Oklahoma State Wins and Covers By ...

Playing to the obvious weapons they have like Heisman Trophy candidate quarterback Mason Rudolph and the best receiver in college football James Washington. The offensive line is versatile and experienced. They have the pass-blocking skills to afford Rudolph the time to find an open receiver and open holes for RB Justice Hill and other Oklahoma State backs. Defensively, the Cowboys were 82nd nationally against the run a year ago and are breaking in new defensive tackles, but do return MLB Chad Whitener and have two stellar safeties. If Okie State gets rolling early, the Pokes should improve on Coach Mike Gundy's 35-19 ATS record as home favorite, winning by 22.6 PPG.

Tulsa Covers and Pulls Possible Upset By ...

Leaning on their experienced offensive line and defensive ends and secondary. Tulsa is breaking in a new quarterback and cannot be expected to come close to the offense of a year ago, where it was 4th in total offense, 7th in scoring and 8th in rushing. The Golden Hurricane like to play at fast pace under coach Phil Montgomery, and they will try and wear the Cowboys defense down with the O-Line and RB D'Angelo Brewer, among others. Like Oklahoma State, Tulsa is breaking in new defensive tackles and has to generate negative plays to get off the field, and they have a pair of talented corners in Kerwin Thomas and Reggie Robinson II.

What To Watch For and Outcome

For college football picks, with some of the defensive weaknesses, the OVER really looks in jeopardy, and while it is a given Oklahoma State has the better team, it also has a distinct edge at quarterback. While giving out the -18 does not come without some trepidation, favorites of 10.5 to 21 points like the Cowboys who scored 35 or more points a game last season playing in a nonconference contest between two teams from FBS football are 23-4 ATS since 2007, winning by an average of 22.7 PPG.
