What better way to pad your bankroll for the weekend than cashing a pair of college football picks on Thursday night? Let's peruse the small slate and seize the night!

Ball State (2-7 SU, 2-6-1 ATS) vs. Northern Illinois (6-3 SU, 5-4 ATS)
  • Northern Illinois is 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games in November.
  • Northern Illinois is 4-1 ATS in their last five games as a favorite of 10.5 or greater.
  • Northern Illinois is 7-3 ATS vs. Ball State over their last 10 home games.
  • Ball State is  0-4 ATS in their last four Thursday games.
  • Ball State is 0-5 ATS in their last five games following a straight up loss.
  • Ball State is 3-13 ATS in their last 16 conference games.

This is what we call a MAC mismatch. Northern Illinois is vying for Mid-American Conference supremacy while Ball State has yet to earn its first conference win, nine games into the season. The Huskies dominate the Cardinals in virtually every major statistical category and not only defeated Ball State in both meetings last season but covered the college football odds with ease.

The separation in talent between the two programs has grown much wider this year than last which is reflected in the line this morning. Northern Illinois is a solid 32-point favorite across the board and truth be told, they should be. Ball State is allowing almost 40 points per game (ranked 126th) and scoring an average of just 18.8 PPG (ranked 121st). In other words they can't score and they can't stop other teams from doing so. Let's lay the lumber in our college football picks and watch the Huskies roll to a blowout win over the Cardinals.

North Carolina (1-8 SU, 2-7 ATS) vs. Pittsburgh (4-5 SU, 3-5-1 ATS)
  • Pittsburgh is 2-7 ATS in their last nine games as a favorite of 3.5-10.0.
  • Pittsburgh is 7-17 ATS in their last 24 games as a favorite.
  • Pittsburgh is 1-6 ATS in their last seven home games vs. a team with a losing road record.
  • North Carolina is 7-3 ATS in their last 10 Thursday games.
  • North Carolina is 4-1 ATS in their last five games following a bye week.
  • North Carolina is 22-10 ATS under coach Fedora in weeks 10 through 13 of the regular season.

Pittsburgh’s aerial attack has diminished substantially since starting quarterback Max Browne injured his throwing arm after the team’s 24-27 loss to Syracuse back on October 7th. His backup, Ben Denucci, has been merely serviceable in relief throwing four touchdown passes and four interceptions. That rush-first mentality will allow North Carolina to not only key on the run but chew up time on the clock as well. The Tar Heels had a hard fought 24-19 loss on the road to No. 7 ranked Miami before their bye and under head coach Larry Fedora always play their best ball late in the season. We will grab the points at what we feel is a generous number and back the road dogs here.
