After opening anywhere between +5000 and +10,000 before the season starter to win the Heisman Trophy, Lamar Jackson has quickly become the NCAAF odds favorite to run away with the Heisman.

Odds makers have Lamar Jackson juiced all the way to -333 in some sportsbooks, so is he a lock to win the award, or are there others who could steal it away. Here is a look at Jackson and some of his top competitor’s NCAAF Odds.

Lamar Jackson (-333)

Lamar Jackson currently has 25 touchdowns on the season and went for another seven last week. He is on a torrid pace and if he can keep it going into October, he might lock up this award when some of the other contenders start to fall off.

However, this week brings a huge test in Clemson, who will be the toughest defense Jackson and the Cardinals have faced all season. However, if he can dice up the tough Tigers defense in route to a huge win early in the season, voters will remember that when it comes to trophy time.

Christian McCaffrey (+900)

The next best candidate for the Heisman and the guy who would become the favorite if God forbid something were to happen to Jackson is Christian McCaffrey The Cardinal running back is averaging 5.5 yards per carry and had an impressive showing against UCLA last week.

He has scored four touchdowns for Stanford this season and much like Jackson, McCaffrey has his toughest test to date when the Cardinal heads to see the Huskies in Washington. If he can get another 100 yards and a touchdown, he’ll stay just outside of the top tier, which is currently occupied by only Jackson.

Donnel Pumphrey (+3000)

The FBS leader in rushing yards through three games is none other than San Diego State’s Donnel Pumphrey, who has now run for 500 yards in two games and has six of his seven touchdowns. Who cares if it was against Cal and Northern Illinois? That’s damn impressive and it’s good enough to keep him in the discussion if the Aztecs can keep winning and hold onto their top 20 ranking.

 Honorable Mentions

J.T Barrett (+900) and Deshaun Watson (+1000) also deserve a mention after their big starts to the 2016 season. They both are the next tier of quarterbacks behind Jackson right now.

Also, on defense Jabrill Peppers has become a dark horse candidate for the award at +2500. Mr. Swiss Army Knife has been amazing to start the season and if Michigan has a huge season, he needs to be at least considered for the Heisman.
