Notre Dame vs. Virginia Cavaliers Odds Preview
5Dimes has installed Notre Dame as an early 10.5 point chalk. The total on the college football betting odds board opened at 50 and has quickly seen action move it down to 48.5. We need to examine the reason for this move and also dissect this home tilt for the Cavaliers.
Who Needs Evereet Golston?
That is the question Irish fans have to be asking themselvs after an absoulute dominant performance over Texas. The answer very well could be..... FSU you can gladly take our sloppy seconds or left overs because we have a guy at QB who is shining already. Malik Zaire is the real deal FOLKS! He already understands the playbook, checks down on his receivers, and steps forward into his throws with excellent form and touch. He rang up 300+ yards throwing and finished with a 93 QBR against a Texas pass defense that finished 2014 ranked 4th in the nation, in yards allowed per attempt, and that returned alot of experience. Zaire is fun to watch, and there's still room to improve as he matures. There was more than just Zaire to watch. The Offensive Line did well, dominanting on rushing plays and providing a cozy pocket to throw from. The Irish finished with 214 rushing yards on 52 carries. Backup Senior tailback CJ Prosise was forced into action do to an injury to starter Tarean Folston. CJ did not dissapoint. He finished with career highs in carries(20) and yards(98). These injury is somewhat concerning though as the Irish head into Charlottesville. Now lets see how the Fighting Irish defense did vs. Texas. The Golden Domers defense held the Longhorns in check all game. Texas ran for only 60 yards on 29 carriers. It would seem the Irish dominated up front. The stout rush D, did wonders for the passing defense as well. The Longhorns managed a mere 7 for 22 throwing the ball and only managed to gain 93 total passing yards vs. the Irish. The fact is Notre Dame took care of business at home against a bad Texas program.
Virginia hung in for as long as it could against highly rated #11 ranked UCLA Bruins. They only trailed by 7 points at half before folding like a tent in the 2H. The problem Virginia ran into was settling for FGS and not TDS. Virginia looks vastly improved from there 2014 campaign. We give high praise to Ian Fyre there kicker. The guy is on point on his kicks. Having already played a ranked team on the road, we believe Virginia to be battle tested and we are siding with UVA+10.5 ATS. UVA will be my college football pick on Saturday when they welcome the fighting Irish into there house at 3:30 est. Look for the injury to the Irish's tailback to play a small role in helping UVA keep the game within shouting distance. We believe the early line drop in the total to be an admiration, a false panic play by the public giving to much credit to an Irish Defense that played a real bad Offense. We lean slightly to the Over. We think UVA will find the end zone a few times on this Irish D and make the game interesting.
