Georgia and Missouri will meet at Faurot Field on Saturday night in an early season clash of SEC East rivals. Let’s analyze this matchup and evaluate what the college football odds makers say about his one.

Bulldogs Nearly Get Bitten
The college football odds makers slapped a ridiculous number on the Georgia Bulldogs last week in their game against unheralded – or more accurately, unknown – Nicholls State, hailing from the D-1AA Southland Conference. Yes, it was a game that might have gone unlined but those sportsbooks that did deal it made sure that all the chalk eaters paid a dear price as the Bulldogs were installed as 53-point favorites.

Georgia not only failed to cover the number but nearly lost the game. The Nicholls State Colonels gave the Bulldogs and their rabid fans a good old fashioned D-1AA scare but ultimately bowed 26-24 in a game that would have sent shockwaves all across the SEC and beyond had the Colonels pulled off the upset. Georgia quarterback Jacob Eason passed for 204 yards with one touchdown and one pick on the game. The Bulldog rushing attack garnered 167 yards with Nick Chubb leading the ground assault with 80 yards and a trip into the end zone.

Betting Analysis
So how many of you believe that the Bulldogs are bound to redeem themselves after their lethargic performance against a team that they should have defeated, according to the oddsmakers, by 53 points or better? Now how many of you believe that their 26-24 victory over that same enormous underdog was more indicative of this year’s Georgia edition than the 33-24 victory over North Carolina at a neutral site in their first contest? That is the question, my friends, because if it is the latter then Missouri getting a touchdown should be a slam dunk inclusion in your free college football picks this weekend.

Speaking of Mizoo, they opened the season on the road in West Virginia with a 26-11 loss as 10-point underdogs. However, they rebounded in fine fashion with a dominating 61-21 win over Eastern Michigan at home and covered the 23-point impost with ease. The Tigers racked up 647 yards of offense and sophomore quarterback Drew Lock proved to be a mortal lock as Player of the Game with five touchdown passes, tying a school record. He also completed 24-of-37 passes for 450 yards through the air, just 30 yards short of that Missouri school record. The Tigers rushing attack marched their way to 170 yards on the ground and had a pair of rushing TD’s to boot.

So what now? Which teams do we see on Saturday and do we take the travelin’ chalk or back the home dog? The one thing I do know is that Georgia allowed a weak-kneed team like Nicholls State to put 24 points on the scoreboard. Conversely, Drew Lock of Missouri just had the game of a lifetime and could be ready to add to that performance. I believe the public reaction to this game is that the Bulldogs are just going to shake off their dismal performance, watch reams of tape of their many mistakes and come out loaded for bear…or Tigers.

I am going to go with what I saw. The Tigers looked positively immense on offense but I understand it was against a struggling Eastern Michigan team. Missouri’s defense wasn’t exactly stout either, allowing 21 points on three long drives by the Eagles. Maybe my lyin’ eyes are deceiving me but I see an offensive juggernaut at home getting a touchdown head start against a team that barely beat a D-1AA squad. Don’t over think it; just bet it – the Tigers that is.
