Our resident enologist and expert NCAAF handicapper, Mark Lathrop, is coming off of a sweep last week with his picks. He looks to start the weekend off well again by parlaying his two Friday night picks in Mountain West and Pac-12 action.

2018 NCAAF Record: 18-11, +11.70u
*Note: Record includes official Twitter selections (@mlathrop3)

Air Force Falcons (2-3 SU) @ San Diego State Aztecs (4-1 SU)

Friday, 9 PM ET, CBS Sports Network

Free NCAAF Pick: San Diego State -10

Best Line Offered: BetOnline

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":3453281, "sportsbooksIds":[1096,238,19,93,180], "LineTypeId":1, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]

San Diego State is weathering a storm of injuries with aplomb and is coming off of a very impressive 19-13 road win at Boise State last week. That win has them as the new favorites to take the conference with a 4-1 record and their only loss being on the road at Stanford. The loss of Juwan Washington with a broken collarbone is bad, but the Aztecs have always been able to recruit running backs well with their emphasis on the running game and history of putting out NFL running backs. They’ve got a bevy of underclassmen chomping at the bit to prove themselves in Washington’s absence.

San Diego State’s rushing defense is averaging just 61.8 yards per game allowed, which seems like a terrible thing against the Air Force and their triple option offense. The Falcons average 255.2 rushing yards per game, so something has to give here. Without a passing attack to lean on I believe the Aztecs have a significant advantage here. The odds show it too, and we have no choice but to lay chalk on San Diego State as one of the Friday night NCAAF picks.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"pt\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Huge game on Friday night for <a href=\"\">@HerdFB</a>. Arizona forced 4 turnovers against Cal at home to win 24-17 as a 1.5-point underdog. Utah’s win was even more impressive; a 40-21 shellacking of Stanford on the road in Palo Alto.

The line in this game suggests that these programs are still in very different places. Utah has opened as a 14-point favorite in this game, and that line has only sank slightly to be a 13.5-point favorite at time of publishing. Arizona is dealing with myriad absences, injuries, and undisclosed personnel problems as well. Add in the altitude and this line is starting to make a lot of sense. Utah has also beat the Wildcats in each of the last two seasons, both straight up and against the spread. I’m going to be eating chalk all night it seems, as it looks like I’ll be taking Utah at -13.5 as another Friday night NCAAF pick.
