Favored on the NCAA football odds to win their 3rd straight bowl game, San Diego State meets Army in the Armed Forces Bowl.

College Football Picks: San Diego State -7½ (+115)
Best Lines are at 5Dimes

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":3375334, "sportsbooksIds":[19,169,238,300,123], "LineTypeId":1, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]

Finally, the 2017 regular season is in the college football record books. Army closed it out with a snowy 14-13 win over Navy this past weekend in the annual showdown, and now the Black Knights can turn their attention to the San Diego State Aztecs in this year’s Armed Forces Bowl on December 23 (3:30 PM ET).

While a reliable weather forecast can’t be turned in for the game at this time, we can at least be fairly certain the Black Knights won’t have to deal with the weather they endured in Philadelphia against Navy with this contest played in Ft. Worth at Amon G. Carter Stadium. 5Dimes was one of the first to offer up a spread for the clash, sending San Diego State out -6½ before the line quickly grew to -7½, the total resting on 49½ in early trading.

Armed Forces Bowl Bound For 2nd-Straight Season
Rocky Long and the Aztecs enjoyed a fine 10-2 showing, the setbacks coming in consecutive games to eventual Mountain West division champs Fresno State and Boise State. A victory over Army would give them a 3rd-straight 11-win season, and they have a defense capable of delivering just that, ranking 11th in the country allowing just under 304 yards per game and 15th in scoring (18.4 ppg). It’s the eighth straight bowl for San Diego State with wins in the last two.

Army not only picked up the Commander in Chief’s trophy with the victory over the Midshipmen, the Black Knights also grabbed the country’s rushing title with the effort. Jeff Monken’s men finished with a 355.8 YPG rate on the ground, led by senior quarterback Ahmad Bradshaw’s 1,566 yards, seventh in the country. This is the first time since 1984-85 that Army is making bowl trips in consecutive seasons, and the second trip to Armed Forces Bowl after beating SMU 16-14 in 2010 on the Mustangs’ own field.

Rivalry Trends, Final Thoughts & A Free Pick
A home-&-home series in 2011-12 is all of the history these two football teams have. San Diego State won both contests, the teams splitting covers and both games finishing ‘under’ totals of 53½ and 49½. The 2012 matchup in San Diego was a lopsided 42-7 Aztecs performance that fell just short of the NCAA football odds.

As mentioned, any weather forecast would be iffy at best right now, so bettors are advised to get an update before making their plays. This is going to be a fun contest for those who like watching teams run the pigskin. I expect this spread to eventual settle at -7 across the board, and just believe the Aztecs will slow the Black Knights’ option enough to cover for my free college football pick.

Season: 41-48-6 (-8.30)
