Free NCAA Football Picks - North Carolina +7.5 Over #16 Miami Hurricanes

NC Tar Heels Players

The Miami Hurricanes look to bounce back after a tough 20-19 week 4 loss as they take on the NC Tarheels. See who we think will cover the spread in this ACC matchup.

According to 5Dimes Sportsbook, the 16th ranked Miami Hurricanes are a secure 7.5 point betting favorite and the total for the game is listed at 64.5. North Carolina is getting no respect here, despite a win over Florida State and facing 3 Top AP 25 teams. As for Miami, they definitely have had the easier schedule, but are a team to be reckoned with.

Stacy Coley Listed As Questionable

After scoring 2 touchdowns last week, wide receiver, Stacy Coley's status for this game is listed as questionable and this would be a tough blow for the Canes and starting quarterback Brad Kaaya, as Coley is the go-to guy in the passing game. Coley is 2nd on the team in receiving yards at 291 to go along with his team-leading 22 receptions, but the fact is, Coley is the guy that get's into the endzone as he possesses 6 of Miami's 10 receiving touchdowns this season.

Regardless of Coley playing or not, freshman wide receiver, Ahmmon Richards, has been very reliable in his first season as a collegiate athlete as he leads the Canes with 304 yards. Richards had a very respectable 4 catches for 58 yards against Florida State and he's definitely a reliable options for Brad Kaaya.

Brad Kaaya Listed As Questionable

While I expect Kaaya to play, Miami has to be worried that he won't be at 100%. After all, this is a quarterback that's in his junior year and has amassed 7585 yards throughout his collegiate career. Kaaya is looking to impress as the NFL is definitely a possibility. He hasn't done anything to hurt his chances this season as he's thrown for 1149 yards with 10 TD's and 4 INT's against mostly tough competition. Look for Kaaya to bring his "A Game" as this is yet another tough ACC matchup for the U.

Another concern for Miami is the running game. Both Mark Walton (484 yards, 8 TD's) and Joseph Yearby (360, 5 TD's) look good statistically but haven't been nearly as productive in the last 3 games as they were the first two games of the season. Yearby is coming off of a 1000 yard season and I expect a bounceback effort by either one or both of these players.

As a team, Miami has averaged 41.4 points per game offensively and allowed a mere 12.8 points per game. Some of this was feeding on the week, but this is still impressive.

Major Collapse

The numbers speak for themselves as the junior has faced top-ranked competition and put up huge numbers. Trubisky has completed over 70% of his passes for 1769 yards with 13 TD's and 2 INT's. He was in beast mode with 3 consecutive 400-yard passing games until last week's loss to Virginia Tech in which he was just 13 of 33 for 58 yards and 2 INT's. I haven't seen such a dramatic drop from a quarterback like this in a very long time. Look for Trubisky to bounce back. He's too good of a QB to underperform twice in a row.

Trubisky will have his favorite receiver in Ryan Switzer as both of these players look to get back on track. After a 208 yard performance against Pittsburgh and a 158-yard performance against Florida State, Switzer caught just 2 balls for 2 yards last week. Quite frankly, I've never seen anything like this and I don't expect for it to continue. For my NCAAF Free pick Look for North Carolina to be very competitive in this matchup as 7.5 points are plenty.
