We share our free College Football picks for this weekend's matchup between the Wofford Terriers and the Idaho Vandals.Read on to find out how we plan to bet this matchup.
The Wofford Terriers and Idaho Vandals meet this weekend in a game between a lower-division FCS team and an FBS team. Wofford has been a tricky team for SEC schools to play in recent years. Wofford gave South Carolina a relatively close game a few seasons ago and did not get blown off the field for a road game against Steve Spurrier’s team. Idaho, for its part, enjoyed a bowl season a few years ago but has generally struggled a great deal. The Vandals have endured a bitter start to their new season, with head coach Paul Petrino getting involved in nasty fights with the media on multiple occasions. How will these teams perform this weekend? There are all sorts of variables to consider.
Wofford played its season opener on Sept. 5 and got blasted by Clemson, 49-10. The Terriers were outclassed by Clemson’s size, depth and speed. It was just that simple. Wofford did not mount the same level of resistance it had been able to put up against another in-state team, South Carolina, a few years ago. The Terriers had the past weekend off to get ready for this game against Idaho.
The Vandals lost, 45-28, to the Ohio Bobcats in week one of the season. The defense simply didn’t show up. Last week, Idaho played what is called a paycheck game (it receives a big one from the host school) against USC. The Trojans ripped the Vandals, 59-9. Idaho can’t really say that it has any degree of momentum here, but the Vandals are hopeful that by playing USC and learning a lot in their study of game film, they will be much more prepared for Wofford, a team which isn’t nearly as big or fast or deep as USC. That could really come in handy for the Vandals when they take the field.

College Football Betting Odds opened Idaho at minus-5.5 points, and this is an acknowledgment of a few things. First, Wofford just didn’t show very well against Clemson. Second, this is a home game for Idaho. That matters. Third, Idaho probably does stand to benefit at least somewhat from having played USC the week before. The Vandals are going to look across the way and see Wofford players and realize that this is a much more manageable game for them. The line isn’t too big, though, because Wofford having a bye week means it has been able to prepare an extra week for this game and this opponent.
The Wofford injury report was unavailable at press time.
Idaho has wide receiver David Ungerer out of this game with a foot injury. Wide receiver Jacob Sannon is questionable for undisclosed reasons. Cornerback Isaiah Taylor has just been dismissed from the team. Dezmon Epps, a wide receiver, had a suspension lifted, so he will play in this game.
Handicapping The Game
The fact that Idaho got sharpened by USC will matter to some degree, but Wofford having an extra week to specifically scout Idaho will matter even more. This game will go down to the wire, and the Terriers will find a way to cover.
