SBR betting expert Ross Benjamin is an outstanding 30-13 ATS (69.8%) with his college football picks over the past 5 weeks. Join us in reading his betting preview on Tuesday’s ESPN2 telecast between Ball State and Western Michigan.

Western Michigan Broncos vs Ball State Cardinals

November weekday games being played in the Mid-America Conference has been a common occurrence through recent seasons. We have another one of those contests on Tuesday when Ball State hosts undefeated and nationally ranked Western Michigan. The Chippewas have defeated Ball State in each of the past 2 seasons, and that includes last year’s 54-7 blowout win.

At the time of this writing (10/31), the college football betting odds at BetOnline indicates that Western Michigan is a 17.5-point favorite. BetOnline is widely considered to be one of the top online betting sites.

Unimpressive Resume for Ball State

Ball State opened their season by winning 3 of its first 4 games, and all those contests came against non-conference opponents. However, since starting conference play, they’ve gone just 1-3, and will enter Tuesday’s game with a mediocre 4-4 overall record. Mediocre may even be giving them too much credit. The Cardinals 4 victories have come against opponents (Eastern Kentucky, FAU, Georgia State, Buffalo) which currently possess a combined record of 7-25 (.219). They’ve gone 1-2 SU&ATS at home, and its lone win came over Eastern Kentucky (2-6) who plays at the FCS level.

Powerful MAC Team

Make no mistake about it, Western Michigan (8-0) is truly deserving of its #17 national ranking. The Chippewas are an unscathed 4-0 ATS on the road in 2016, and won by a massive average of 26.3 points per game. Included in those victories were wins over Big 10 opponents Northwestern and Illinois. They have a very realistic opportunity of going 13-0, and could find themselves playing in a major bowl game versus a “Power 5 Conference” school.

Final Analysis &Pick

In my professional opinion, turnover margin will play a key role in this contest. Western Michigan is a terrific +12 in that department this season, and Ball State comes in at -4. Furthermore, Western Michigan is an extremely profitable 9-1 SU&ATS during its previous 10 conference away games. Conversely, Ball State is a dismal 2-6 SU&ATS through their last 8 conference home games. There’s no sense in me getting cute in this situation, I’m going with the road favorite for one of my college football week 10 predictions.
