The Michigan Wolverines have held onto the Little Brown Jug for 22 of the last 23 years, which makes them an attractive play at the right price against the Minnesota Golden Gophers Saturday.

Road Woes
Minnesota is 3-1 SU and 2-2 ATS through four games of the season, but it did suffer a 30-7 setback to the TCU Horned Frogs as 17-point underdogs in its only game away from home thus far.

The Golden Gophers have dropped 30 of their last 40 Big Ten Conference road games, which is important to consider when making your Week 5 college football picks, especially since they’ve gone 12-39-1 when visiting Ann Arbor.

Since the start of the 2012 campaign, the program is 5-12 SU and 8-9 ATS when getting points.

Hot Seat
Brady Hoke is certainly on the hot season in his fourth year at Michigan, as the team has alternated wins and losses over its first four games this year—coming off a 26-10 defeat to the Utah Utes as three-point home favorites last Saturday.

The Wolverines have won the statistical battle in all four contests, which can’t be ignored when looking over the college football odds page, with the defense leading the way in ranking first in the Big Ten and eighth nationally in allowing 261.0 yards per game.

College football handicappers will find that the squad is 16-3 SU and 10-9 ATS as favorites over the last two-plus seasons.

Question Mark Under Center
Golden Gophers quarterback Mitch Leidner has won five of his seven career starts, but he’s listed as questionable for this matchup with turf toe, which could lead Chris Streveler to become the fourth straight freshman to be under center on the road in this series.

Streveler played every offensive snap in Minnesota’s 24-7 victory over San Jose State as eight-point home favorites last Saturday, as he gained 161 yards on the ground—the third-highest such total for a quarterback in program history.

It’s important to point out that the team has ran the ball 183 times and put the ball in the air just 65 times through four games.

The Wolverines have a lot going for them in this spot, as they’ve won 22 of their last 23 games against the Golden Gophers to secure the nation’s oldest FBS trophy, including wins by an average of 28 points in the last six meetings.

Hoke is 3-0 SUATS in this series during his time on campus, while Michigan aims to improve upon its 31-1 SU record in its last 32 conference openers.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Wolverines as one of their Week 5 college football predictions, but sports bettors should be cautious due to a five-point line move that’s already occurred.

Michigan is worth a look at a number of 13.5 or lower, while Minnesota deserves some attention at 14 or higher.
