Temple is the highlight on an otherwise pedestrian Friday slate of games. Which college football picks (ATS) are we taking to the sportsbooks tonight?

Temple Owls vs. SMU Mustangs
What kind of response will we see out of the Owls after they were handed their first loss of the season?

Oddsmakers are of the opinion Temple will have little trouble overcoming SMU despite being on the road on Friday night. Current college football odds have the Owls favored by almost two touchdowns, with the spread currently at 13 points at most of the top online sportsbooks. There are a couple sites here and there that have the line at 13.5.

The dream start for Temple finally came to an end last week, as they lost 24-20 at home to a strong Notre Dame team. Prior to the defeat, the Owls had gone a perfect 7-0, though it'd be fair to suggest they've benefited from a relatively easy schedule when you compare them to some ot the other ranked teams in the country. Nonetheless, it's been a very successful season for Temple so far, and they're likely to bounce back with a comfortable victory this evening. A strong running game led by Jahad Thomas and a dominant defense has been the recipe for success for the Owls leading into this meeting with SMU.

What is there to say about the Mustangs, other than they've been downright awful in 2015? Sure, the schedule hasn't been easy -- SMU has already played the likes of Baylor, TCU and Houston among others -- but they've only won once this season, and that came all the way back in the second week. SMU has been brutal defensively, allowing 43.6 points per game, which doesn't bode well for Friday night.

Sure, it's a lot of points, but the Mustangs haven't done anything to suggest they deserve more love from oddsmakers, whereas the Owls have been playing tough-nosed football all season long. Thomas should have another big day and the Temple defense should be able to shut down SMU, so we'll be backing the favorites to cover the big number here as our college football pick.

BYU Cougars vs. San Jose State Spartans
Tonight's late game features San Jose State at home to BYU, and the NCAAF odds are squarely in the Cougars' favor. They're favored by either 12.5 or 13 points, depending on where you look, with a total of 56.5 there for the taking.

It's no surprise to see BYU as such a heavy favorite. After all, the Cougars have reeled off a four-game winning streak, and have looked dominant along the way. Thanks to the hot streak, BYU has moved to 6-2 overall on the season and is now averaging a healthy 39.0 points per game. The Cougars haven't been too shabby defensively either, surrendering 23.5 points on average, ranking them 48th in the country.

They'll do battle with a San Jose State team that's alternated wins and losses over their previous five matchups. The Spartans are 4-4 overall and 3-2 in conference action, and they were able to pull off a 31-21 home win over New Mexico their last time out. Running back Tyler Ervis has been the main foundation for the team's success, having already rushed for 1159 yards and 12 touchdowns, while adding 232 receiving yards and another couple scores through the air.

There's no doubt Ervin has been a stud, but he and his teammates face a big-time challenge tonight, as BYU has been lights out recently.

The Cougars have been the much more reliable team all season long, so we feel good about backing them despite another high number. They're playing their best football of the season and should be able to outmuscle San Jose State in this spot.

College Football Pick: BYU -12.5 at Bovada
