Free College Football Picks: Arkansas to Put Auburn in Shackles

The Tigers & Razorbacks are only halfway through their seasons, but it’s clear that they’ve both already fallen well short of the expectations. Let's find which side to back with our NCAAF picks.

Momentum
The Tigers escaped Kentucky with a narrow win. The biggest thing for Auburn to love about its victory on the road was that quarterback Sean White – replacing former starter Jeremy Johnson – seemed to grow into the job. Auburn needs its quarterback to be great, because head coach Gus Malzahn puts so many responsibilities on his quarterbacks, both in terms of personality and in terms of the structure of the offense requiring the quarterback to make the right read at the line of scrimmage. If White can build off that Kentucky performance and carry it into this game, Auburn will have a decent chance to win.

Arkansas is probably in better shape than Auburn right now. The Razorbacks aren’t winning games left and right, but they put up a good fight at Alabama a few weeks ago before fading in the fourth quarter. The defense looks competent enough to put Auburn in shackles. This team is slowly but steadily playing better than it did in an awful month of September. If this forward progression continues over the next few weeks, there might still be some optimism for 2016 and beyond.

Line Moves
Arkansas started as a 5.5-point favorite, and the College Football Odds have stayed in place. Bettors are not enthusiastic about what they see in either team, and they’ve almost surely been burned by at least one of these teams earlier in the season, if not both. You will likely see minimal movement, but if you do see movement, it should go in Arkansas’ direction, given Auburn’s struggles on defense as well as offense.

Notable Injuries
Auburn defensive lineman Prince Tega Wanogho is questionable for this game with a leg injury. Cornerback T.J. Davis is questionable with a knee injury. Defensive lineman Carl Lawson is out indefinitely with a hip injury. Defensive back Joshua Holsey is out for the season with a knee injury. Offensive lineman Xavier Dampeer is out indefinitely with a jaw injury. Wide receiver Duke Williams has been dismissed from the team. Wide receiver Myron Burton left the team. Backup quarterback Tyler Queen is out for the season.

Arkansas has linebacker Josh Williams out for the rest of the season with a leg injury. Wide receiver Jared Cornelius is out indefinitely with an arm injury. Wide receiver Keon Hatcher is likely still going to be out with a foot injury. Wide receiver Cody Hollister is out indefinitely with a foot injury. Defensive back Cornelius Floyd is questionable with a hamstring. Running back Juan Day is questionable with a knee injury. Injuries on or before Labor Day aren’t counted here, it should be noted.

Handicapping The Game
The problems Auburn is facing are deeper and more severe than what Arkansas faces. Take the Hogs with your College Football Picks in what will be a 27-17 win.
