College Football Week 6 Predictions: Clemson vs. Boston College

Boston College has the unenviable task of hosting #3 Clemson on Friday night. The opening kickoff at Alumni Stadium in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts is slated for 7:30 PM ET, and the game will be televised nationally by ESPN. Despite Clemson defeating Boston College in each of the previous 3 seasons, they failed to cover on all of those occasions, and their average margin of victory was just 10.3 points per game.

At the time of this writing, college football odds at Bookmaker shows Clemson as a 17.0-point road favorite, and the total is 45.5. Speaking of Bookmaker, they’re currently offering 50% cash bonuses on deposits of up to $300.

Emotional Letdown for Clemson

Clemson is coming off one the biggest hyped regular college football games in recent years. They hosted then #3 ranked Louisville, and even closed as a 2.0-point underdog. The game certainly lived up to its billing, and Clemson hung on for a 42-36 win. By virtue of that victory, Clemson climbed to #3 in the national polls. Here’s the catch. Clemson now goes on the road and will play with shorter than normal rest, and will face a Boston College team which has gone 1-11 during its previous 12 ACC contests, and that includes a current 9-game losing streak. I will go out on a limb, and say that there’s no way Clemson will possess anywhere near the intensity level that they displayed last Saturday night. Contrarily, it will be considered a huge opportunity from Boston College’s perspective.

Boston College Seeks Huge Upset

The good news for Boston College is they’ve already matched last season’s win total of 3. The bad news, those 3 wins have come against Massachusetts, Wagner, and Buffalo. Not exactly the crème de la crème of college football.

Despite being torched for 49 points and 476 yards at Virginia Tech a few weeks back, the Boston College defense has been a solid unit for 2 years now. As a matter of fact, in the other 4 games they played this season excluding Virginia Tech, Boston College has allowed a paltry 9.3 points and 134.0 yards per game. The Eagles stop unit must be on top of its game if Boston College is going to have any chance of being competitive in this contest.

Final Thoughts and Picks

I’m not going to be brave enough to call for an outright upset. Nonetheless, I am going to predict this game to be much closer than many are envisioning. As a result, I’ll have an early lean toward the home underdog as one of my college football week 6 predictions.
