They fired their head coach, and their All-American running back might not play Saturday. Can the LSU Tigers possibly be the right football pick against the Missouri Tigers?

Record: 9-7-1 ATS

The people finally got what they wanted. Les Miles is out at Louisiana State; the Tigers (2-2 SU, 0-4 ATS) let their head coach go on Sunday, promoting assistant Ed Orgeron on an interim basis. Orgeron then made the call to fire offensive co-ordinator Cam Cameron, replacing him with Steve Ensminger. Just another day at the office in Baton Rouge.

Meanwhile, LSU has a game to play this Saturday (7:30 p.m. ET, SECN) at home against the Missouri Tigers, and the NCAAF odds board at press time has Orgeron's side laying 13 points. Will they come out firing against Mizzou? Early bettors weren't impressed. Our consensus reports showed 54 percent of bettors taking the underdogs on the spread, and 100 percent on the money line at +400.

There's another issue with LSU: Running back Leonard Fournette has been playing on a bum ankle, and he's considered a game-time decision for Saturday. But this could be just what the doctor ordered for LSU. Miles was leaning heavily on the running game, despite Fournette's injury, and it ultimately cost him his job. Ensminger, a former quarterback at LSU, is a highly-respected offensive guru, and his task this week is to get the receivers more involved. The players seem quite happy about the shake-up.

On the other hand, Missouri (2-2 SU, 3-1 ATS) is on a heater right now. These Tigers are coming off a 79-0 thumping of the Delaware State Hornets, a beating so thorough that the two teams agreed to play 10-minute quarters in the second half. Mizzou QB Drew Lock gives his side a puncher's chance to beat LSU during this coaching transition, even if the favorites have one of the best secondaries in all of football – not just college.

Which is why we're inclined to recommend the OVER for your college football picks this week. The total of 53.5 points is already up from 51 at the open, but it's still vulnerable on what looks like a beautiful Saturday at Tiger Stadium. And while the UNDER is 4-0 for LSU this year, that was with Miles at the controls, and with their opponents playing conservatively. Neither of those things will be happening Saturday.
