The Foster Farms Bowl will have the Utes and Hoosiers battle it out on Wednesday, December 28th. Indiana is coming in as the underdog in this matchup but they do carry some value, should you back them to keep it close?

Foster Farms Bowl gets an interesting contest this year with the Utah Utes facing the Indiana Hoosiers. The schedule wasn’t particularly kind to Indiana this year and the same could be said for the Utes and Kyle Whittingham. The Utes played both a red-hot USC football team as well as the no. 4 ranked Washington Huskies and were reasonably competitive in both contests.

On the other hand, Indiana faced both Ohio State and Michigan. The Michigan game, in particular, was a game in which the Hoosiers outperformed there expectations in a 20-10 loss.

Replacing Devante Booker for the Utes was perceived to be something they’d struggle with this year although, Senior Joe Williams more than replaced Booker adequately. And with this being the final team for Williams to suit up for Utah and with the chance of scouts being in attendance, expect Williams who has come through his fair share of adversity this year to want to put on a show and showcase his skills.

A matchup to look out for in this contest is the Utah defense can both be stout and can be unbelievably opportunistic. Especially, senior CB Brian Allen, which could prove difficult for Hoosier QB Richard Lagow who’s touchdown to interception ratio on the season isn’t particularly good with 18 to 16 respectively. Lagow’s also completed under 60% of his passes which again plays into the hands of a stout Utes defense.

The Hoosiers also are strong in RB talent with Devine Redding who on the season with little acclaim has performed admirably. Redding’s racked up 1000 yards this season for the Hoosiers and has proven to be a dynamic weapon.

This contest really depends on how serious Utah take it. They’re capable of pinning most teams back and in their own territory, especially with Mitch Wishnowsky. An outstanding punter who can dominate and leave teams in ruins.

Utah’s point ceiling in pretty much most contests is mid 20’s to low 30’s, they’re heavily dependent on Joe Williams and with the senior in his final game, expect Utah to run him into the ground. The Utes passing game has been dormant all year and for a Hoosier team that was able to contain Michigan, expect them to keep this close.

They’ve faced similar teams to Utah; they’ll be physically ready for this contest, having faced similar teams in size. Indiana keeps this close in a score line around 24-21/27-21. Take the Hoosiers as your college football pick
