Free college football picks for the ACC battle between the Florida State Seminoles and the Clemson Tigers. We examine the current betting odds, hoping to find a betting edge.

The No. 4 Clemson Tigers host the No. 5 Florida State Seminoles in Saturday’s main event. Clemson has a 7-1 spread record in its last eight meetings with the Seminoles, while FSU is 4-1 ATS through its first five weeks of action.

Gear up for this week's action with our College Football Picks: Week 8 Odds Report.

Tigers, Boyd top B.C.

Clemson notched its latest victory in this past weekend’s 24-14 win over the Boston College Eagles, coming from behind with a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns. Tigers quarterback Tajh Boyd took in a six-yard score, while finishing with 334 passing yards.

Boyd connected 30-of-44 attempts, finding favorite targets Sammy Watkins and Adam Humphries for a combined 16 catches. Clemson’s Roderick McDowell logged a team-high 91 rushing yards out of the backfield, while defensive end Vic Beasley returned an Eagles’ fumble for a touchdown.

The duel’s combined 38 points plunged below the ‘total’ of 64, moving the UNDER to 3-1 in the Tigers’ last four games. Clemson’s defense allowed the chains to move at a stingy 3-for-15 clip on third-down conversions, while Boston College held on to cash for my followers as a 24-point road dog.

Seminoles squash Maryland

Florida State has been idle for a week since its 63-0 triumph as 17-point home ‘chalk’ over the Maryland Terrapins, piling in 614 total yards in 34 minutes of possession. Seminoles quarterback Jameis Winston threw a season-high five touchdowns, completing 23-of-32 strikes.

Jameis Winston reached mates Kelvin Benjamin and Nick O’Leary for two scores each, with the duo uniting for 115 receiving yards on nine catches. FSU’s Devonta Freeman led his side’s rushing with 63 yards, while the Seminoles committed no turnovers.

Florida State held the Terrapins to 234 total yards, with a scarce 33 coming on the ground (1.3 YPR). Both sides were flagged for four penalties each (66 yards), while the matchup leaped OVER the ‘total’ of 57.

Back Clemson as a home dog

College football odds opened Florida State as a three-point road favorite, while initial wagers on Clemson added a minus 120 lean to the Tigers. The weather forecast at “Death Valley” calls for a 58 degree evening, with calm winds and a 30 percent chance of rain.

I am backing Clemson in this marquee affair, taking the short number as part of Saturday’s college football picks.

The Tigers have held foes to 11.3 PPG in their last three home contests, while cashing at 10-3 ATS in their last 13 battles against Atlantic Coast Conference rivals. Clemson’s Vic Beasley leads the ACC with nine sacks, while Darius Robinson and Bashaud Breeland have combined for five interceptions.

Florida State missed an ATS cover in its most recent road spot, edging out Boston College in a 48-34 victory. The Seminoles dropped to a 1-7 spread mark in their last eight games away from home, with Winston logging one of only two interceptions all year.

Clemson has had just two spots as a home dog through the past three seasons, collecting with outright victories in both. The home team has cashed with a 12-3 ATS mark in the last 15 matchups between these foes, with the Tigers riding an 8-0 spread streak in the battles they have hosted.
