The Runnin’ Rebels & the Bulldogs are both coming off losses. Does the team with the more embarrassing loss have a chance to win, due to the idea that it might be a lot more motivated to win?

Momentum
The UNLV season took a negative turn in a 33-27 loss at home to San Jose State, a very winnable game which slipped away. It was an inconsistency-ridden performance for a team which has not been able to settle into any appreciable groove. Being guided by a first-year head coach, Tony Sanchez, has inevitably brought about a learning process for the Rebels, and it shows on the field. There are going to be more bumps in the road. The hope is that Fresno State might be bad enough to give the Rebels a shot at a conference road win.

Fresno State’s recent result, a 56-14 loss to Utah State, would certainly suggest that the team is not ready to beat UNLV or, for that matter, just about anyone. The Bulldogs have been crushed by injuries to the quarterback spot this season, but that doesn’t explain giving up 56 points. This team has struggled to maintain what the 2013 team established. Everything has slid well downhill in Fresno, and the current season feels doomed, with no real hope of escape.

Line Moves
The College Football Odds started with UNLV as a 3.5-point choice, and that line has moved up to 5.5 points. People just don’t see anything in Fresno State which points to a team that’s ready to win this game. Those in and near the Fresno State program have been reporting a football operation which has collapsed. There is no direction from the coaching staff – it is at a loss in terms of what to do. Derek Carr and Davante Adams, the quarterback and receiver who carried the program within one win of a big bowl game two seasons ago in 2013, really did a lot to mask the weaknesses that were about to flow into the program. Reinforcements have not been secured, and the public seems to know that Fresno State has no real leg to stand on right now.

Notable Injuries
UNLV has fullback Marc Philippi out indefinitely with a foot injury. Cornerback Fred Wilson is questionable with an ankle injury. Quarterback Blake Decker is questionable with a shoulder injury.

Fresno State has wide receiver Aaron Peck out for the season with a foot injury. Wide receiver Keyan Williams is questionable for this game with a concussion. Linebacker Michael Lazarus has been dismissed from the team. Linebacker Tobenna Okeke is expected to miss two to six weeks with a knee injury. Quarterback Ford Childress is out for the season with a spleen injury. Quarterback Chason Virgil is out for the season with a collarbone injury.

Handicapping The Game
This is not a reflection on UNLV. It’s about Fresno State being a terrible team with all sorts of injury limitations and no real solutions to fix what’s going on. Take the Rebels with your College Football Picks.
