Motel 6 Cactus Bowl
The West Virginia Mountaineers (7-5) and Arizona State Sun Devils (6-6) will square off in the 2015 Cactus Bowl on Saturday 1/2/2016. The opening kickoff at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona is slated for 10:15 PM ET. My area of concentration will be focused on the total in this contest. Current (12/23/2015) college football odds have a posted total of 63.5. The number opened at 66, and quickly plummeted to its present state, due to a near 90% of wagers being made thus far, going on under the total.

Explosive Offensive Attacks
Both of these teams displayed explosive offenses this season. That was especially the case down the final stretch of their regular season games. West Virginia averaged 34.0 points and 497.3 yards during its last three games. Arizona State averaged a robust 41.7 points and 516.0 yards per contest during its previous three outings. Each of these teams has scored 30 points or more seven times this season, and that includes eclipsing the 40 point barrier four times apiece.

Sketchy Defensive Play
Don’t be deceived by West Virginia allowing 20 points or less in each of its last four games. Those contests came against opponents that finished with a combined record of 14-34 (.292).  As a matter of fact, during a five game stretch beginning on 10/3/15 versus Oklahoma, West Virginia allowed an average of 41.0 points and 495.2 yards per contest. On a positive note, West Virginia has forced an impressive 31 turnovers this season, including 23 interceptions, and on many of those instances it created short fields to work with for their dynamic offense.

Arizona State was less than adequate on the defensive side of the ball during a majority of this season. The Sun Devils have allowed an average of 32.7 points and 446.0 yards per game. They’ve allowed 34 points or more in seven of their twelve games, and were torched for 501 yards or more in four of its last five contests.

Final Thoughts and Pick
I truly believe that this will be a very high scoring and wildly entertaining game. One of my college football picks will be indicative of that exact sentiment.
