Our college football betting expert preview’s Saturday’s national telecast between Charleston Southern and North Dakota State. Go inside to read this revealing betting article culminated with a college football pick.

Buccaneers Seeks Season Opening Upset over The Bison
North Dakota State is the defending 2015 FCS National Champion. They’ll play host tonight to an extremely competent opponent when Charleston Southern comes a visiting. The opening kickoff at the Fargodome in Fargo, North Dakota is set for 7:30 PM ET, and the game will be televised by ESPN. Current college football betting odds at BetOnline has North Dakota State as a 21.0-point favorite, and the posted total is 47.5. This will be the first meeting between these schools on the gridiron. The 2016 Coaches Preseason Poll unanimously voted North Dakota #1, and Charleston Southern comes in with a #6 national ranking.

Program on the Rise
Since Jamie Chadwell took over as head coach in 2013, Charleston Southern has gone a combined 28-10. However, three of those losses came at the hands of FBS opponents Georgia, Alabama, and Troy. Hence, they’re a terrific 28-7 (.750) against FCS foes during that three-year period, and that includes 9-1 in 2015. Speaking of last season, the Buccaneers won the Big South Conference championship, and in doing earned a berth in the FCS Playoffs. They defeated Citadel in their opening round contest, and then were eliminated by Jacksonville State during the ensuing round of action.

The Buccaneers return 16 starters from a team that finished 10-3 a season ago. They’ll rely heavily on a strong running game, and what should be one of the better defenses at the FCS level. Charleston Southern will certainly be motivated by their national television appearance, and being installed as a three-touchdown underdog against the reigning national champions.

FCS Dynasty
North Dakota State not only won a national championship last season, but they’ve done so for five consecutive years. As a matter of fact, over the course of that time, they’ve gone a combined 71-5 (.934). Here’s an additional noteworthy tidbit, since 2010, “The Bison” are a perfect 5-0 versus FBS teams, and all of those were played on enemy turf. Those wins came over Kansas (2010), Minnesota (2011), Colorado State (2012), Kansas State (2013), and Iowa State (2014). They didn’t face any FBS schools in 2015. Nonetheless, that streak will be put to a stern test when they travel to Iowa City on 9/17, and square off with the 17th ranked Iowa Hawkeyes.

The Bison defense returns eight starters from a unit which was #3 nationally in total yards and #5 in fewest points allowed per game. Gone from last season’ team is star quarterback Carson Wentz. Yes, that’s the same Carson Went who was the #2 NFL overall pick by Philadelphia back in May. Nevertheless, Wentz was just 5-2 as a starter last season and missed eight games due to injury. Redshirt freshmen Easton Stick stepped in admirably in Wentz’s place and led North Dakota State to an unbeaten 8-0 record. Stick is back for his sophomore campaign, and that bodes well for “The Bison”.

Final Take and Pick
The oddsmakers have indicated there’s a huge disparity between the top and sixth ranked teams, proven by a current 21.0-point line. Despite North Dakota’s dominance in FCS action since 2011, I like the road underdog to stay within this sizable number, and one of my college football picks will be further indicative of just that.
